Hi there. I've had my Z20 keyboard for 2 days now. This is my first mechanical keyboard as well. In general, it works great. However, what I have gripes with, is the software: EVGA Unleash RGB.
Just to be sure: this is specifically for the Z20 keyboard since I don't use the Z15.
The TOF sensor is very nice when it actually works. See, the default value to detect an object is 120cm. This would be fine if... it actually detects you and not your chair. My room is small and I need to push my chair under my desk so I can move around. If I set it anywhere higher than 10cm, the keyboard won't turn off like I told it to do because it detects the chair! Last night, I thought I set the detection to 60cm but it ws left at 120cm because the config wasn't saved. I turned my chair around so the sensor wouldn't catch the chair's back rest. I sat on my bed and the keyboard was struggling to turn on as if it wasn't sure if there was something or not. I finally laid down and... it kept flashing randomly thinking "wait, is there something approaching over here?".
What I suggest? check if there's movement directly ahead of its field of vision. If something moves, it means there's somebody, right? If it's completely immobile for a period of time, even if it detects something in its range, it should turn off. If there is somebody coming or at the keyboard, you can't be entirely immobile.
Then, there's the keys assignment options. What if I want to open an app? You can't. Hell, even Logitech's old SetPoint software can do that with multimedia keyboards' buttons! You can literally assign left/right/middle clicks to the keyboard but you can't assign an app to a key except a few exceptions (default media app, default browser, default email client and the calculator). Also, what if you were checking something and mapped a letter to something else? By default, the primary and secondary fonctions is simply the letter itself. However, if you did an error and want to change it back, it's very unclear. "Default"? But the previous function was set to "G"! This "default" label should be renamed for each key to the key's original value.
The "Default" button is very misleading. Its function is to reset the entire profile to the default values. You would think that it would only default what you are currently looking at but, nope.
You know, a "Your profile has been saved" prompt or text somewhere could be very useful just to confirm that things are being saved correctly.
I've encountered a bug where if I changed the colors, parameters and whatnot for the TOF sensor, click apply, then head to the Key Assignment tab and do some changes there and click apply, it would entirely reset the TOF sensor parameters...
That's it for now. If I think of anything else to add, I'll reply here.
