It's been a while! I had just changed positions and locations at my job (well, at least coming up in a month) and the best part is it shaves 3 plus hours off my daily commute! This gives me my time back I lost 10 years ago to continue doing what I love! Building Cases!

Today I have a project on a larger scale....I'm building a U-shaped desk with two builds in it! Because? The wife is sick of looking at my three (all different) desks in my office with 3 different builds! This desk will contain two of my current builds....no new fancy expensive components (can't afford them) just a nice clean looking office and desk layout! I'll show before and after pics when the project is completed. The design is about 70% completed and it should start taking shape over the next few weeks!

Specs:
  •  Size: 11 feet wide x 7 feet deep with matching shelves (1 foot wide) wall mounted. The desk top is 24" deep
  • Cost: I'm thinking around $1,300.00 to build
  • 8020 Aluminum Extrusion in the 2525 MM size at various lengths
  • Acrylic 1/4" thick, matte black, clear
  • MDF Board at 3/4" & 1/4" thick wrapped in faux black wood vinyl wrap

Here is the design:

Wow 1year past!!!! I changed some of the design..... well, all of it!!! It's been a hectic year trying to get this desk/case built and I finally figured out what was best to make it work!

The desk is 6ft tall x 26" deep x 7ft 4" wide. I'm still playing around with the integrated case design that will be placed on the right side.

Here is the new updated SketchUp drawings:

Here is progress on the desk over the past two weeks now that I figured out what I'm doing! Next steps are designing the case, which is about 50% complete!

    Materials:

    • 80/20 Aluminum extrusion 25mm (1 foot, 2 foot, 5 foot, and 6 foot pieces)
    • Rubbermaid Black 12" shelving from Home Depot
    • M6 hex nut screws, t-nuts, 25/25 inside corner braces, 80/20 end fittings
    • Case material will be acrylic

Love the design update! The original seemed to have a crazy footprint but would've also been cool to spin around and have desk on three sides

I love your use of the 80/20, that stuff is so versatile. Your setup is coming out epic.

The EVGA logo panel in your desk CAD model. Are you going use laser cut sheet metal, or 3D print it?

Wow that is a ton of braces, smart move on your part going with 25/25 and not 80/20 brand. The price for 80/20 braces and comer pieces can get out of control, however the extruded 80/20 aluminum itself is a great deal and very strong.

    This desk looks absolutely fantastic!

I've built a desk-pc a couple years back actually (stopped using it in the meantime)... Loved the experience of building it. More than actually using it actually xD
I strongly suggest to give a lot of thought to cable management and component access for when you need to upgrade - I didn't, and was one of the major factors for giving it up.
