Im at work, and I am not familiar with your specific i7, however I will take a stab. Try an odd number multiplier like x21, make sure the memory is clocked at factory specs (including voltage), and turn off the VDroop function. Also, VTT should be ~+175 to +200 mv.

Ok guys I appreciate all the help thus far...... Quick update so far so good using the above settings given to me , however i do have one question..... what are the IDEAL sort of temperatures i should be running at if i have my cpu at 3.4Ghz at the mo under full load I'm getting like mid 40's across the board on 5 of my 6 cores, under prime 95 maximum heat test!?? thanks. Your system will shut itself down ( after a down clock attempt at TJ max ( aprox 100 degrees) Most of the guides recommend no more than 85, in an attempt to insure that 100 is never hit. ( this is the number I have been using folding for two plus years. Honestly cooler is better, less temp means longer life. This guide http://hothardware.com/Articles/Intel-Core-i7-Overclocking--A-HotHardware-HowTo/ recommends 65, under stress test. How much risk are you willing to take ? Mine

OK I'm now running at a nice 3.9Ghz and will probably leave it at 4Ghz as I'm getting what i assume are acceptable temps at 3.9 of 67 degrees and that's only on a maximum of 3 of my 6 cores, please advise if these temps are dangerous , oh btw that's at full load on Prime 95, also how long should i let prime run before i can assume my clocks are bulletproof stable? Thx Martin

You will want to tun 20 iteration of LinX (with the newest 64 bit binaries) at "maximum memory". If you pass that, then run P95 for ~24 hours. If no BSOD, and it never gets hotter than you want, then you are good to go.

Damn just got to 4 hours or so of prime 95 and my computer restarted but i have no idea if i had a bsod as i had my monitor turned off to conserve energy as i was going to stress test for 24 hours! suggestions! ????? OK a small update, so i just updated all my overclocking progs to the latest versions:: LinX, Prime95 64bit version, RealTemp etc, and ran Linx 64 bit without error for 20 passes, however my last attempt at a 24 hour Prime95 run as i sed before only lasted 8 hours!

OK so i ran LinX without issue twice for 20 passes on max memory and it was fine, tried Prime95 overnight and I've yet to see a BSOD although when i woke this morning Prime95 had hung on 51 mins, so far that means running Prime 95 at 4.00GHz all i have had is 1 system hang and 1 auto system restart, any ideas as to what is likely to be causing this??? haven't changed any voltages except the cpu vcore, which is now at!: 1.3500v

You will just have to play with both Vcore and Vtt. Every chip is deferent, No two the same, even each chip, in another board with deferent memory can be deferent, vdroop on or off makes a deference, the internal resistance of your components, strength of your IMC, and to some degree, even what you consider stability to mean. What LinX or prime 95 says is stable, Folding SMP at stanford, may disagree.

Ok so just an update I set my settings accordingly and I can use my computer for most all tasks clocked at 4.12Ghz however I cannot for the life of me get it stable (In terms of bulletproof stable) , EVERY time i run either Prime 95 or Linx for an extended period of time (5 hours of more i get errors, (however i have yet to see a BSOD) and my system rarely hangs if ever, i just get errors reported, Is there a setting i should be checking to try to make it stable??? , will post updated settings later on! Thx Martin

usually this means your just a smidgen off Vcore or Vtt, what are you at on these two settings. Im running 1.375 vcore, and 1.425 total Vtt with a +225, ( this is with 12G of 2K memory)

Sorry bit of a n00b question but HPET support [ENABLED] HPET mode [32-bit mode] Shouldnt this be set to 64 bit mode for 64 bit OS? Im also testing Linx at the moment and have found that the app might crash but adding a few more V's to the core fix's this as KMoore4318 states. However I also have cooling issue's on my NB and VRM area's that are causing crash's. I dont know what temps your's are at however. E-leet tool can inform you tho.

Set HPET ( High percision event timer) to 64, the applacations that can not utilize the 64 will automaticaly drop to what they can use.

OK so just a quick update, I managed to get my OC stable according to LinX over 20 passes at full memory (yet to try Prime95 overnight), however I am currently not happy with my temps heres my current settings/temps: VREG TEMPS : Maxes out at 92D which IMHO is WAY to hot! CPU CORES: range from 74D - 89D although only 1 core hit 89D (Still a little to high for me, I'm aiming for late 70's max) VOLTAGES: CPU VTT: 1.52V OR +200MV CPU VCORE: 1.141250 CURRENT BCLOCK/MULTIPLIER: 192X23 = 4.400Ghz ISH Any suggestions on any voltages i should be able to lower slightly whilst remaining stable? thanks Martin

Now drop your VTT, it will lower CPU core temp and drastically lower Vreg temp. Go 50 per test. Your present VTT is dangerously high. You may need to add a notch or two of CPU Vcore to compensate. If that don't work try increasing QPI PLL Vcore (and decreasing VTT) instead. 1.3V is a good value for QPI PLL. KMoore has a prob W/recommending adding too much VTT. I have achieved 4.35GHz W/0 added VTT (but that was a 920). I had many BSOD 124's during my OC and they never meant to add VTT unlike popular belief. It is true however, for some ppls, they need to add a lot of VTT. Personally, I would never go over +250 VTT, it is too hard on the CPU.

Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB. See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve. Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

So halloweed Finally it appears I'm getting somewhere, the following are the latest settings (and temps) that have finished without errors in 20 runs of LinX on full memory: CPU VTT @ +100mv CPUVCore @ 1.40625 QPI PLL @ 1.300v Multiplier @ 23x Bclock @ 192 Question on the Multiplier/Bclock: Does it make any difference whether i have a higher Bclock or a higher Multiplier or does diff combinations just work with different chips. As for temps well i only had one core on the cpu hit 83D this time 2 others maxed at 80D (still a litte high for my preference but A LOT better) as for the VREG well It's a whole new ball game the temps drastically dropped and before i nipped out to the store they hadnt gone higher than 77D so I'm going to run again just to verify! Oh 1 more question i ran Prime95 randomly and it gave me MUCH higher temps across the board (excusing the VREG's) is this because of the way it processes data??? Thanks again Martin So to update the above, I am currently running Prime95 and the VREG and Core temps are a little higher than when LinX is running however they are not too too bad I'm vurrently looking at : VREG : 92D (bit higher than I'm happy with) CPU cores Max: 1:80D 2:81D 3:69D 4:73D 5:87D 6:82D Had to stop P95 as i wasnt happy AT ALL with these LOAD temps I'm getting .

arrrgggghhhh i don't get it when i test with Linx i get respectable results but as soon as i run P95 it kills my system is there any way I'll be able to get to 4.5Ghz stable???

badass1982 Question on the Multiplier/Bclock: Does it make any difference whether i have a higher Bclock or a higher Multiplier or does diff combinations just work with different chips. It don't really matter exc for your memory. You should do whichever runs your mem at the highest speeds stable. Glad to see you are making positive progress. badass1982 Oh 1 more question i ran Prime95 randomly and it gave me MUCH higher temps across the board (excusing the VREG's) is this because of the way it processes data??? No that's really odd. Typically, for almost everyone, LinX produces higher load temps across the board. I'm afraid it might be due to your OCZ RAM. Most ppl on this forum have not had good luck W/OCZ, it's known not to work well with EVGA OCs. But there are some more things to try: Raise CPU PLL to 2.0Vcore. I see your tRAS and tRFC look very low. This can cause memory instability. Try reading what those values should be in AIDA64 (free 30-day trial period), CPU-Z will also show the tRAS in the "spd" tab - but not tRFC. In AIDA64 you would read these values in "Motherboard" --> "spd" --> "Extreme memory profile" --> 1000MHz. Perhaps I will think of something else later, right now have to eat supper. GL.

using that tool it is trying to tell me that my memory is : @ 533 MHz 7-7-7-16 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 27-59-4-8-4-4 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP) however it is rated at 2000Mhz not 533Mhz x 2 (as it's ddr) which would equal 1066Mhz which is still way off 2000Mhz, also i cannot see in that program "extreme memory profile" I'm using version 1.80 of that program!

Srry I took so long, was meaning to check more often, but the wife and I just watched "Season of the Witch" - excellent movie. You should see something like this: only the lower circled area should say 1000MHz. Perhaps you need to scroll down? If not, you may have a counterfeit memory prob. Where did you buy it?

When you run P95, are you running "blend"? If so, and your memory is wonky, that would explain your wonky results W/P95. You see it hits memory harder than LinX, more of a workout for the memory than LinX, I think; and much more of a workout than Memtest86+ gives.

I was running the test that says Maximum heat the middle selection not blend but Large FFT and Im also aware that my RAM is **** so i just want to make sure my CPU MOBO OC is rock solid bulletproof stable, but every time i try to stress test with large FFT it gives an error/locks up or is wayyyy to hot. My brain is actually hurting now I'll give it another go tomorrow as I'm determined that i can get this 4.5Ghz overclock bulletproof stable on this machine! Thanks for all your help! Martin

But do you find anything under 1000MHz in AIDA64 where I showed you? If not, we need to switch gears about the way you are setting your mem.
