Dear EVGA or member,

Ive just sold my GTX1080 for a very good price! I want to buy the GTX 1080ti FTW3 but it isnt released yet and i have no gamecard at the moment.

Here is the question: Can i just buy an GTX1080 FTW from the EU.EVGA website, and will it be possible to step-up, when its released, to the GTX 1080ti FTW3 or an other GTX1080ti version of EVGA?

Hopefully hear from you guys and thanks in advance!

Greetz,
Paul from the Netherlands

There's a chance the SC3 or SC Black will be on the step up list. Very unlikely for the FTW3.

You could go buy one and then step up but currently only the 1080 Founders Edition is available. If we are lucky then maybe the SC Black will be later, but the chances of the SC2 or FTW3 are very slim. Frankly the odds of the FTW3 being on the step-up has to be damn near 0. They just don't offer FTW cards in the step-up program. Almost always only reference boards.

Ok thank you guys for the answers. I just have to think about it wich version of the gtx 1080 i am going to buy. And then wait the 90 days and hopefully i can step-up to maybe the sc one.

at the best we will see the SC black or even a plain version of that icx card. as it is a standard for step up to only have cards with stock base and boost clock. they have only put higher cards on a few rare occasions. So if your wanting the ftw3 or other card I'd say wait as it's not even confirmed step up will get more than a stock Fe version

Would it be quicker to buy at 1080 and go through step up to get a 1080 TI rather than waiting for the TI to become available? Right now it's absurd to me how few, if any, TI's are available for purchase.

the step up wait will be a while at this point. You will also pay shipping both ways on the step up. But you would not have to do the crazy search for a 1080ti. The only bonus of getting the 1080 now and doing a step up is you would have a card in the meantime while you wait for step up.If it was me and I was buying new I would wait for the aftermarket cards EVGA is coming out with.

Good points. I'm just bummed the TI is released in March but realistically, the aftermarket cards won't be available until May ( if my guess is correct).

I realize it's not EVGA's fault how Nvidia is stepping on it's partner's toes and making them wait to sell their product but still...

Meh, I was thinking further along the line like with EK blocks made for the the TIs and EVGA's aftermarket card design. I'm impatient right now though so I found an EVGA 1080 TI FE on newegg yesterday and am just going to use the EK Pascal Titan block.
