Although microtransactions have caused controversy over the past few weeks Star Citizen will start selling virtual real estate with the money being reinvested back into the game development.

Part of me wants to run out and buy a parcel.  The more practical part of me wonders just how much money do these people need?

Better not be seeing Chris Roberts jetting about in a newly Purchased Lear.

So in other words it sounds like they blew through what cash they had already and need to make more cash. God the greed of the game industry knows no bounds.

Why would anyone pay $100 for a piece of land in a video game? I guess I could see someone doing it in a game if the developer was like making the city and the player got a cut of the business that took place in the city as a bonus in a MMO type game.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

Why did people donate thousands of dollars to receive a ship and an incomplete game? Same reason they will buy a plot of land that doesn’t exist... for hope that their game will be finished. It’s fools gold in digital format.

You know you're a scam when you start selling virtual real estate.

Why anyone still falls for this is hilariously sad.

I'm sure him and his upper echelon of the company are raking in some hefty paychecks.

Of course they are. Hell this game has been in dev for about 5 years and is still in alpha phase. It's things like this and the loot box fiasco that's going to end up causing the creation of some kind of oversight committee that'll regulate the game developers and publishers in the industry. In fact I kind of would welcome such a thing.

Reeks of desperation.... wants more money for literally *nothing* .

I think the game looks cool / sounds cool ... but there needs to be some basics of a game done already, instaed of videos of what it will be how-ever-long from now.

There are no protections for crowd funding that's why. If this were a venture capitalist thing they'd have had a game out years ago already for a fraction of the cost.
