The thing that has me concerned is that the 20-series and 10-series also were bought out and scalped because of crypto / demand. Until Crypto crashes, we're in for some rough times.

Until this somehow bites the distributors/retailers, nothing will change. I am curious how this effects PC gaming in the long run.

Agree with a few others here, I got my 5950x from Best Buy, as well as my motherboard and a psu that are harder to get.  I've been using hotstock for the notifications. The best buy system isn't perfect but at least gives average people a chance.  You have to click add to cart, then wait for it to turn yellow again to click again to add (after a random amount of time in the queue), then enter a code sent to your email, then checkout.  I've tried for a few graphics card from best buy, but haven't gotten them yet. Amazon is the same story every time, click on it instantly, add to cart, go to checkout, gone.  I think I almost got a graphics card once on Walmart, but I hesitated because something else was already in the cart, a toy I had added long ago.  Should have just bought the bullet and bought both...but that hesitation I think cost me the card.

It would be nice to see retailers like amazon do something to show they care about getting cards in the hands of people rather than bots, even if I'm not sure there are any guarantees.

Best Buy you just have to be FAST. I got a 3060 last week (granted one of the pricier ones), never had luck with the FEs. Amazon is botted to all hell, not even worth trying.

The closest I got with Best Buy was the 6700xt launch. Almost got an XFX card for $500. I hadn't seen an Add to Cart button since fall 2020 at that point.

I feel like everything is getting botted these days. Whereas a month or two ago, I'd be able to at least get cards to my cart in Amazon and Best Buy being a minute late.... now a days, even if I'm glued to my PC and on top of it, not even getting the chance to purchase. Sucks

An acquaintance of mine who tests prototype hardware as a consultant (among other things) has been saying that GPU prices will start to normalize once Ethereum shifts to proof of stake (and makes other changes). He said that starting in Feb 2022, the smaller mining operators with less than 20-30 cards will be forced to quit or mine altcoins.
So it may be a year or more before the prices are acceptable to gamers.

Damn, that kinda sucks that they would nerf people with 1 or few cards that chose to mine, like myself. It's totally reasonable to profit on a big purchase. So, 20-30 cards... was that referring to 30 series cards? Cus I've seen people 3 or 6 card set ups do what a 3090 can do by itself..

If they wanted to they could probably have a code written by the end of the day and stop of of it but they wont because they don't care. I wish all the major retailers that sell GPUs would make a que system. Put your name in the system once your number/ name comes up you have X amount of hours to buy it or you get sent to the back of the line. Once you buy a GPU you are then tracked and cannot buy another GPU for X amount of days (90 would be a good Start for each house hold). Each purchase would also need to be verified via drivers license, home address, name, and what every else to try to combat the use of bots. I'm sure I missing something.

The best buy drops are only online. But usually pick up online after they arrive at your local BB.

I got so close a few times as well. Amazon seems to go out very quick! Also have to be careful not to accidentally get a "reseller" *cough* amazon sanctioned scalper *cough* added to the cart lol

Its online only. If you have an in-stock alert ready you can then jump on when they are doing a drop and click add to cart. (I suggest being logged in to save time before you add to cart). Then a message will pop up telling you that there is another step. You then need to wait for the add to cart button turns yellow again. If you are lucky enough to have it turn yellow a second time and add it to cart be ready to check to as quickly as possible. Its more like a lottery but at least you might have a shot.

always feels sad reading that as someone from the EU without bestbuy or microcenters. i probably should've just gotten a prebuild pc back in dec/jan when they were still in stock/reasonably priced considering gpu prices...

This has happened to me so many times.

Once I even managed to order a 3070 just for it to be cancelled the next day out of nowhere.

Yeah, I've given up on traditional sites. I've had no luck sites always crash from the traffic the minute before it drops.
