What's the story on a Z590 stinger??

And the Z490 and Z370 or Z390?

Oy!  Tough crowd here.  I just spent an hour reading roadmaps on Intel's site.  I am not going to quote it or speculate about it - too much aggressive contrarianism out there.  I recommend anyone interested in the topics here go read it for themselves.
Now, to pick a few nits...
The concept of previous generations of boards and chipsets being "obsolete" as used here is nonsense.  Have a look at Steam's hardware surveys sometime - and be amazed.
Where I have choices, I almost always prefer an EVGA option.  Sadly, EVGA's available option list is shrinking.  I am over big towers with EATX motherboards.  For the last while I have been using two of EVGA's last Micro ATX boards, the Z370 and X299.  I have always preferred the Micro ATX form factor but l was recently bitten by the iTX small form factor bug.   EVGA has not offered an iTX board since Z270.  Sorry, H370 does not count.   So in the last two months, I bought two Z490 iTX boards (MSI and Gigabyte).  I wish there had been EVGA options.  Truly.

Totally agree about SFF builds, have not seen an EVGA Stinger (mini-ITX mobo) for a long long time, years even. I just scored an ASUS Z390-i mini-ITX from EBay, hopefully I'll have time tomorrow to build it and see if they sent me a dud or not. The mini-ITX build is for my Mrs., and will be sitting in a Corsair Obsidian 250D mini-ITX case, along with an i7-9700k cooled by an AiO CLC120, an EVGA 2070 Super GPU (blower cooler, which is the only decent option for a mini-ITX case), 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz ram, an EVGA 850 T2 PSU, and a Samsung 960 EVO 500GB m.2 NVMe primary drive (plus a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB secondary drive). Should be a nice little beastie.

Indeed. I highly doubt there will be a mini-ITX board for the Z590 though. Maybe (hopefully) EVGA will put one out when the Alder Lake CPU with the new LGA1700 socket comes out, which may be late 2021.

Love these.  I don't get the moaning about the RGB on the dark, just turn it off, what's the issue?  EVGA isn't dressing up a lower board with inferior VRM to masquerade at a higher price point, they're throwing the RGB bone out there for people who might pass otherwise.

I really might consider the Z590 FTW depending on rear IO and price.  IIUC the 11th gen/z590 had pcie 4.0 lanes 16 for GPU, 4 direct for nvme, and the DMI is now 8 lanes of PCIE gen 4 instead of 4 lanes of PCIE G3, so a huge bandwidth upgrade that should allow for lots more connectivity on the Z590 boards (likely in the form of USB as that will allow them to function (at reduced speeds) with a 10th gen CPU.

I guess it's just me, but I can't find a reason to complain with the products on offer from intel, AMD or the AIB's.  My issues are strictly constrained to supply shortfalls.  Otherwise it's a great time to be an enthusiast!

Sticking with the unsightly yellow capacitors I see....

Pretty much everyone but you enjoys them, as they mesh with the black and gold aesthetic of the higher quality components. I hope they stay for quite some time.

Anybody know how a top end GPU runs at PCIe 4.0 8x?  If there was no bottlenecking that would free up the other PCIe 8x slot for storage, bifurcation, etc.

Hardware Unboxed on youtube did some benchmarks to compare https://youtu.be/iq8Vv-WqlIE?t=659

Ah very interesting, looks like 4.0 8x gives full performance on a 3080.  That make me interested in a Z590 that has built in bifurcation (typically ASUS).

Only a few, in Brea even know, and possibly not even for sure. It's crazy times so everything is up in the air. Either way, you're looking at the Intel CPU's coming later, I hear.

An EVGA X570 board would definitely be a great thing (and tempt me to move away from my Crosshair VI Extreme).

Well who do you love more?  Wouldn't hold your breath on them jumping ship.  I think EVGA is counting on people sticking with them and putting up with Intel for the next few years until they leapfrog back up.  Myself, too entrenched in Intel to move to AMD and have to figure out their nuances.  I'll just live with my slightly slower 10900K.

As someone who got a Dark out of the first batch on X79, I'm disappointed to see where the Dark has gone. It's no longer Dark. It's no longer big.

I'm also very disappointed in the RGB craze. As well as the manufacturers pushing the enthusiast SFF game hard even Asus making the impact for a bit, then ditching it. They made ITX great. It's like phones. For decades it was performance in a smaller phone. Now its "my screen is bigger than yours".

Honestly man no one is stopping you from turning off the RGB and enjoying a sleek black and white logo?

Also, just because high-performance SFF boards aren't everywhere doesn't mean everything is "getting bigger," the very same top-end models that have always been E-ATX are still E-ATX, and 90% of the boards on the market are just ATX.

It's also unfair to compare the Z590 dark to the X79 dark because it's desktop vs HEDT and the latter has more RAM channels, PCIE lanes, etc so it physically requires more space. The Z590 dark is a similar size to Maximus/Aorus Extreme, Godlike, etc like the Z390 and Z490 darks before it.

I'd love to see a top-end ITX board again but there are still very solid ITX options out there that will realistically do everything you need 9 out of 10 times, even if they aren't top-end ROG or EVGA models.

RGB seems to run the market now over performance, and it's starting to reach into the high end enthusiast market.  I believe its a fair comparison, because the X79 Dark introduced a hardcore no frills enthusiast board without extra stuff that the main audience wouldn't necessarily want.  Everything is staying bigger, and there seems to be a shortage of ITX boards in general.  There are a few for AMD and Intel, but even ASrock has pretty much dropped out of enthusiast grade ITX boards.  And ASrock was making big leaps with theirs.  Not too long ago (2015/6 5 years) there were two segments gaming and enthusiast.  Now theres just gaming with some enthusiast features at a premium price.  There is no real gap between enthusiast anymore.  I get that I can easily turn off the RGB.  But why not offer one with or without the lighting?

I'm sure it's a great and quality level board, it just does not scream "buy me and put me under LN2".

I would disagree, I think the Z590 Dark is a great evolution on previous generations' aesthetics and the RGB has by no means harmed the performance orientation of the board, much like the similarly subtle RGB on the Kingpin. It is the most overclocking-capable motherboard EVGA has ever made and likely will perform the best of any Z590 board on the market for XOC.

In this instance, it strikes a great balance of LN2 OC-able and daily drivable that no other dark board has in the past, without any sacrifice to the former. For the first time, I'm inclined to get one for my daily rig because the design looks fantastic IMO with the shiny copper and subtle RGB that closely match the Kingpin 3090. And if it's no worse for XOC, what's wrong with making it more approachable to the 99.999% of the market who don't know what an LN2 pot is?

On the ITX front, I think it's just an issue of the market not being there for whatever reason. Trickier to build ITX machines, fewer features (by a narrow margin), and yes of course the "bigger is better" mindset. If high-performance ITX boards were a success in the past they would still be in production, but the demand just wasn't there at the high end unfortunately

Nevermind it's much much more expensive to build an ITX board. Even mATX is more expensive to build if maintaining the same quality as an ATX board. Higher price tags combined with lower sales volumes is never a combination companies are going to choose unless they're sure about the return. I look for performance at a reasonable price, so that always means ATX to me.

I’m sure there is an option to disable or turn off RGB? Eh doesn’t bother me, it looks minimalistic rgb compared to the masses. I really like the look of the new board and am foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog to get one. I wish they would freaking give us updates on when it’s out. Jacob and others have seem to gone “dark” no pun intended on this and other gpu issues.......

With the Z590 Dark and rocket lake for OC or even extreme OC what would be the best ram cl/mhz?
