I had similar problems with my 3090 Hybrid (black screen, fans spinning at 100%) and read that some people are having this issue with Evga Precision X1 or Msi afterburner running.
I deleted X1 and since then i didnt have any problems anymore, now 2 weeks without any issues.
Are you running X1 or Afterburner in the background?
I can't get to windows now bud. So can't remove X1. The card is no longer detected in Windows

I also have a i7-10700k on an Hero XII Mobo.
When i had the issue with my card, i removed the gpu, started the pc again with the onboard gpu from the mobo.
Removed X1, removed the drivers with DDU, swapped the gpu in again and did a fresh install.
That did work out for me in the end.
Just throwing ideas around :)
100% appreciate the advice bud. I will try it after work today and see if it works. I'll try those steps.

The card is gone but I got mine to work this way, but it’s very unstable and crashes randomly so had to RMA it. shop said it was under performing so got my RMA Black lip one but think I’m gonna have to let PX1 do that firmware update as I can’t live with the funky lighting

EVGA just accepted my RMA so I am sending it back next week. They also agreed a cross-shipping with reduced cost. This was a +1 for this being my second RMA. I tried removing the card, getting to Windows with onboard HDMI, removing Precision X and drivers, safe mode DDU, then reinsert the card. Did not help. The card itself has problems for sure. The fans are still spinning up and down. I went into Windows also and tried to flash the VBios but it says no valid graphics adapter is detected. :(

Thanks. I was hoping the suggestion above would work. I'd MUUUUUUUUUCH rather have this card suddenly work for me as it means no gaming this weekend. And I have no life so this is super painful hehe :) EVGA's team isn't back til next week, which I absolutely understand, albeit I am very sad

Throwing my hat into the ring for historical reference. Mid-game earlier today, playing half life Alyx, system crashes to black (20-30 minutes into game). Rebooted pc, everything except the screens turn on. Lights and fans on the gpu (3090 FTW3 Ultra, black trim) remained on. Power supply was also reading a lower output than usual at 70-80 resting vs 110-120 prior.
Tried the following: reseating gpu, reseating all power cables, replacing all power cables, switching between gpu bios type (oc and normal), switching from using display port to hdmi, using a different monitor. Eventually ran out and bought a cheap gt1030, which succeeded to output display signal. With both seated on the mobo, only the 1030 was detected.
Already contacted support to get an RMA setup.
Unfortunately this was my second 3090, after the first seceeded to the "red light of death" just before Thanksgiving.

Did you try out different Pci slots? Just to be sure that you dont have a problem there. And checked the power cabling on both gpu and psu side? If you already did, then im running out of ideas :(

I forwarded your issues to EVGA directly earlier today, so I'm glad they were able to assist.
Much appreciated that you would do that. To be clear, I have never questioned EVGA's support for their customers. There's a reason I have bought from them for a while now. Alas they seem to have had a few problems with the 3090 this launch. Most likely due to very limited time from NV to create their boards/power runs. I don't know tbh. I am speculating. Fingers crossed my new card has black lips and/or doesn't have issues. Gereon83

Seems like there's enough of these dead cards which seem to display the same fault to rule out it being an individuals system IMO.
On my second card, the first lasted about 21 days or so.

Second card - brand new from a different retailer started the black screen/100% fan **** today. Just playing TFT (Circa 200w power use). When the screen went black and I heard the 100% fans I thought.. yep cards gonna be dead.. but this one actually made it back into Windows.
first card was 2014 - Taiwan, this card is 2012 china.
1200w ASUS Rog THOR Platinum Rated PSU - Previous card was using an 850w EVGA PSU (Gold)
3 Separate 8 pins.

Weirdly I just got a shipping confirmation for my card. Its arriving Monday
Seems to be an intermittent issue, honestly I'm expecting it to go off and not come back on anytime time. Hate to be pessimistic about it but it's exactly what happened to the first card and these issues make me not want to waterblock it so not only is the card giving me anxiety over imminent failure but I also cannot complete my build. The fact it's happening when the temperature is in the 50s and it's only under 150-200w of load worries me alot. Hopefully your card is a good one. I'm going to give it one more shot before calling it a day with EVGA cards.

Try backtracking to driver 456.98 Hotfix and see if you still get any crashes with it. Report your results.

Try backtracking to driver 456.98 Hotfix and see if you still get any crashes with it. Report your results.

Just got my RMA’d 3090 ftw3 ultra replacement and it’s black lips has the driver 460.97 that’s causing people problems but this card i running like a champ so far. I’m of the opinion some cards are fault. And PS it could be as a fault of PX I’ve uninstalled mine so now I can’t change the funky lighting, plus it wanted to do a firmware update without the option of me saying yes or no I’m sure it was after this pint when it installed the firmware last time that it died
I know this is an older post, but this is EXACTLY what caused my issue too. I will never use Precision X again. About to RMA mine for the first time.
