Samsung announced its new Odyssey G7 and Odyssey G9 gaming monitors at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this year -- but now, they're available for pre-order.

There are three different models to choose from, with the larger-than-life 49-inch Odyssey G9 coming in with a native 5120 x 1440 resolution and 1000 nits of brightness. Samsung's other two are in the Odyssey G7 family, with a 27-inch and 32-inch gaming monitor each with a native 2560 x 1440 resolution and 600 nits of brightness.
Samsung uses a flagship QLED panel on the larger 49-inch Odyssey G9, while the lesser (and thus, cheaper) Odyssey G7 gaming monitors use a cheaper VA panel. But, all three models have a ridiculous 240Hz refersh rate -- so if you're buying the Odyssey G9, you might want to wait for that next-gen NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 or RDNA 2-based Radeon from AMD.

Samsung has pre-orders open now, with shipping to start on July 13, 2020. As for pricing, this is what you're looking at:
49-inch Odyssey G9: $1700
32-inch Odyssey G7: $800
27-inch Odyssey G7: $700

I suppose if you want the ultimate monitor you have to pay for the privilege.

That is a price that should make one wait for third party reviews

Not really, it's like a dual display desktop. Very common thing.

I have seen more and more extra wide displays, they seem to be overpriced and uninspiring generally.

I have a standard 4K screen which I play games on and watch feature films too

for gaming not at all ,gamers are using 1 monitor and sitting in front of a 49in monitor i dont think its ideal.

The G7 is available for pre-order on Amazon - release date July 14th, 2020 (direct from Amazon, not a 3rd party seller).

    G7 27" $699.99 [link]
    G7 32" $799.99 [link]

I'll be interested in seeing the reviews on this, although I'm not planning on getting a curved monitor, partly due to the depth of desk space it takes up. I don't see the G9 listed yet on Amazon.

It's a huge monitor but the price isn't exactly shocking for the specs. We all expected them to be high but it is a monitor you probably could own for a long time before needing to upgrade.

It's also not relevant to a lot of other things, but you do not invalidate the usefulness of double screen desktop real estate based on your gaming bias. Gaming is not the measure of everyone's needs.
