Hmm.  How long should the update take after pressing "y"?  The machine has basically been locked up for 10 minutes.

This is getting painful

Tried to update the bios in windows.  After the second prompt (in yellow), windows locked up for 30 minutes, so I called technical support.  They suggested a reset, and if the MB wasn't bricked, try it from safe mode.

Booted into safe mode and tried again.  I got a command window trying to get Admin privileges, but after 20 minutes I still didn't get a UAC popup.

Fine, screw it, let's just do this from DOS.  Created at DOS usb stick, which I can't get the bios to let me boot from.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you switched to another bios? There are 4 banks you can flip to if the current one is bunked

It's all good now.  It turns out that you need to disable UAC in Windows for the update to work properly.  The tech that I finally got bumped up to figured it out in ten seconds.

Hello,

I recently put together an SR-X build (two Xeon 2670's) with BIOS v1.03. I have turned on Intel Virtualization which enables VT-x. Should this also enabled VT-d or is there another setting for that?  These processors do support VT-d and VT-x.

Thanks!

you can have them both enabled, esp if the CPU's support it

Re: SRX 1.03 BIOS released 2017/01/23 23:31:47 (permalink)
Hello,

I have found the root cause of this issue.

With BIOS 0.11 under Chipset > IOH Configuration > I find Intel VT for Directed I/O Configuration and inside I can enable VT-d.

With BIOS 1.03 under Advanced > IOH Configuration > I do not find Intel VT for Directed I/O Configuration. I do not see Intel VT for Directed I/O Configuration anywhere within this BIOS.

I specifically need this BIOS as it adds GTX980 support however, I need to be able to enable VT-d as well as this allows GPU pass through to VMs.

I know this works with this current hardware as I am able to pass through a GTX560 on the same hardware just not the GTX980 because the older BIOS does not support it.

Thanks!

Hey ogman,

Thank you for the reply.

I did install the custom bios that you have linked however Intel VT for Directed I/O Configuration is not listed under IOH settings or anywhere else I can see.

Is this something you can look further into perhaps as EVGA remains silent?

Thanks!

Check under "CPU Configuration"
the option should be called "Intel Virtualization Technology" that enables VT-X for me

Hello,

The option under CPU configuration for Intel Virtualization Technology is there and enabled and does enable VT-x.

I need VT-d to be enabled as VT-d allows for GPU pass through to VMs.

This option is available in BIOS 0.11 however, 0.11 does not support my GTX980.

Thanks!

So as I said above I only bumped to be able to reply to a PM because for whatever reason EVGA needs 11 posts to reply to PMs.

Never the less this issue is still not resolved. Maybe you XrayMan can get a hold of one of these EVGA techs and have them actually read and understand my issue?

Re: SRX 1.03 BIOS released 2018/11/10 10:03:38 (permalink)
This is the configuration I am using:

Model   Classified SR-X    Manufacturer   EVGA Corporation    Serial Number   REV 0.0    BIOS Name   4.6.5    BIOS Vendor   American Megatrends Inc.    SMBIOS Version   4.6.5    BIOS Date   3/23/2012
Is this update (   ) what I need to update the BIOS? Is there a newer BIOS update?

I just don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks

Re: SRX 1.03 BIOS released 2018/12/29 06:38:00 (permalink)
The current BIOS Version is:
Driver Version: 1.04 Release Date: 4/16/2018
Driver File: Download [http://cdn.evga.com/bios/SRX/W888_flashtool_104.zip]
This BIOS is intended to update the CPU microcode to increase security related to the reported Spectre vulnerability for processors used on EVGA SR-X Motherboards.
This microcode update is expected to be used in conjunction with related patches from your Operating System or VMM to ensure complete protection from reported vulnerabilities.

In the Windows System Information it is reported as:
American Megatrends Inc. 4.6.5, 04/09/2018

So at least, if you think Spectre&Co might be a risk for your system, you should update to the latest version.
No screwing required, just unzip the package, run UPDATE.bat and re-adjust the BIOS settings.

SR-X Classified with
2× E5-2687Wv2 (3.4/4GHz) + 8× KVR18R13D4/16 (128GB)
1× GTX680 Phantom 4GB + U3011
1× LSI SAS 9271-8iCC CacheVault + 8× Vertex4 512 (2TB RAID10)
1× LianLi PC-V2120B + Raidon iS2880-8S-U5D
