hey all,

ive had a RTX 2080 Ti Black for around 4 months now, and have not had any issues. but today i noticed one of my fans every 10 seconds jumps up to 3900 RPM, being very loud, lasts for 10 seconds, and goes back down to 2500 RPM. this is only fan 1, as fan 2 stays constant at 2500 RPM. i dont know what changed from today but its very annoying hearing this fan shoot up every 10 seconds and go back to normal.

any ideas why?

ill attach a picture of Precision X1.

EDIT- fixed the problem, EVGA reached out and stated it was most likely a thermal paste issue, and also dug around other forums with people having the same issue due to thermal paste. i took apart the card and discovered almost half the paste missing. reapplied MX-4 and have had no issues since. pic attached

Oh, well in that case it's normal. Once the card hits a certain temp the fans will spin faster on the auto curve to prevent the card from getting too hot.

Uninstall Precision X1, run the card without any software intervention and see if it still acts up..There's MSI Afterburner you can try too.

The fan near the mounting bracket is for the GPU.

Your temps must have gotten higher from when you first bought it. No issues at idle?

Did you found a solution to his problem?
My RTX 2080 Ti black is acting the same way since a few days.
I have owned that card for a bit more than a year and I never had that fan problem before.
Now the first fan will randomly go to 3900+ RPM for a few seconds and then come back to normal.

Yes, we did find a solution. EVGA Tech Justin suggested i look at the thermal paste that came with the card. i also dug around other forums and found people having the same issue and it being linked to the thermal paste. I took my card apart and discovered almost half of the chip was missing thermal paste. i applied MX-4 to the chip and placed the card back together. have not had any issues since. Picture attached of how much paste was missing.

Thanks a lot for the answer :)
I guess I'll have to take apart my RTX 2080 Ti then :o
