Are there any owners of the EVGA SC15 laptop that could shed some light on this laptop?

I'm on the fence about buying this over the MSI GE63VR Raider, and I'm wondering if anyone could share thoughts on this for things such as serviceability, reliability, battery life, etc.

Haven't seen any SC15 owners around here yet.
This is an in depth review of the machine.

The EVGA has a very solid unibody design and thus quite a bit heavier than the raider.
It is a shame they included a 1060 instead of the 1070 Max-Q to push the 120Hz G sync screen.  Being G sync and all the battery life is weak.
The raider on the other hand, has a 1070 with a 120Hz screen as well, but no G sync. It has optimus instead, so the battery life is better.

I guess the other big question I have with this laptop is upgrading the SSD and RAM. Unfortunately, those components are mounted upside down, and the laptop has one of those warranty seals that claim your warranty is void when it is broken.

Any EVGA tech want to shed some light on this? It's a little unfortunate to have one laptop model become un-upgradeable unless you want to risk losing warranty service.

Yeah, real bummer about the upside down motherboard.  The SC17 has accessable RAM and SSD, so it is unfortunate they opted for that.  Still technically, if nothing is damaged when replacing it, they should honor the warranty nevertheless.
I forgot to mention, that they did showcase a new SC15 with the 1070MQ, which is a much better fit for the screen, but they usually take a long time before releasing it.
If they take too long, by then it might be getting obsolote with next gen nvidia later in the year.

I ended up speaking with a sales rep on the subject of upgrading the SC15.  Pretty much seems like EVGA will just flatly refuse warranty service for the laptop if you remove the motherboard on any of their laptops.

A real shame, since I do like the build quality of the SC laptops.

    Oh well.

    So I just got the SC15. I also have the SC17 1070 (non g-sync).
The SC17 wins in so many categories: The screen is the best and its quieter, but it is too heavy.
The SC15 has some good bones: The device is much lighter. The keys and trackpad are way better (though some keys are tiny). The fans run more often than I thought they would. The screen is IPS, but looks almost like a TN panel (it's weird). The anti-glare coating is more obnoxious on the 15 than the 17.

Nevertheless, both devices are built solidly. It's almost as if EVGA carved them out of Death Star's consoles (or, at least I imagine this is how they feel).

I just wanted to post and add to this, even though its a dead thread, in case anyone comes looking for any info regarding the SC15 reliability.

Bought it 2 weeks ago, and its a pretty good unit - Other than the weak 1060 struggling with 120hz in most games. Then, a few days ago when idling in a game for 20 minutes or so the thing just shut down and upon reboot the 1060 is completely fried. Looks like OC damage, even though the machine was running stock (Have fried a few video cards in my time, and can see defective H/W a mile a way vs a bad driver...)

So now I have to jump through hoops, and even at the mention of returning it and getting my money back, I was advised that I would be paying shipping, restocking fees, etc... So I really feel like EVGA isn't interested in standing by their products once the $$ has changed hands. I can't believe I have to deal with this **** for a 2 WEEK OLD UNIT!! Apparently this one completely missed quality control. I'll update once this RMA gong-show process starts, but for any one out there looking at the SC15\17 - Be wary. Take that with a grain of salt though, as I'm sure there's a ton of people out there who haven't had a single issue.

Yeah, no issues with mine, and I've found the GPU to be quite hefty.  Having to pay shipping and restocking is common for many manufacturers including Dell and HP if you just want to get out of your purchase.  This is all spelled-out in their terms that you agreed to when you bought it.  Sorry you got a bad one, but it happens to the best of them!

Has anyone else looked into upgrading to Windows 11? My audio quit working about a month ago after a driver update. I haven't been able to fix it yet. It won't connect to a USB hub continuously, and it won't work with the display connected to my dock anymore. I was hoping Windows 11 would fix some of those...at least the audio. I downloaded the health check app to see if it was compatible. All the checks were green, but it still says it's not able to upgrade. I'm guessing it's due to not having a TPM 2.0? Microsoft will discontinue support and updates for Windows 10 in 2025. So, is Windows 11 essentially turning my 2 year old computer into a boat anchor?

As a followup, has anyone had issues with running Linux Ubuntu on theirs?
