XSPC D5 Dual Bay Reservoir Combo

Source: Posted: December 6, 2012 in Pumps

This is review of the XSPC D5 Dual Bay Reservoir Combo.   This is another “Durable” option in the bay reservoir pump craze.  While XPSC has had a few acrylic options, this is an all new D5 model molded with a tough nylon material that is internally accessible for cleaning via one large top cover and it has a small acrylic window.  Up until this reservoir option came out though, getting your hands on a more durable material option usually meant spending over $100, but not so here…it’s about half that.  Any while most reservoir tops for the D5 so far have only made very minor improvements.  This bay reservoir hit several notes in performance due maintaining a nice spiral shaped volute, removing much of the exit elbow, and improving the inlet port to a more desirable size.

IMHO there is no better, more trusted, reviewer of water cooling components and it is nice to see him still at it after all these years. As we get water cooling posts for help here in the EVGA forum on a routine basis I have many times pointed to his reviews as a go to trusted source for qualified answer. If you are new to water cooling or even a pro there is no better resource to give you help in making your water cooling decisions.

Here is the bottom line.

Quote Martin:
Wow, that is impressive.  While most bay reservoir tops struggle to maintain the same level of pump performance as the factory top, XSPC did their homework and improved performance by a noteworthy amount.  This is the highest performing D5 top I’ve tested to date which is excellent!!

Wow, impressive for a res/pump combo! I just personally prefer the separate cylinder res inside the case. Looks a bit more fancy!

Awesome! This is the pump/res I was looking at for my future water cooling. I'm new to water cooling so this helps put everything in perspective compared to other products out there. Thanks!

If you are paranoid about one pump failing and want a pump redundancy thing... then yes. But otherwise, those D5 pumps are known for their reliability and it's very unlikely one is gonna fail on you.
