I want to remove the aluminium backplate on a 1080 ti sc2 to clean it, will this void my warranty?

    Welcome to the EVGA Forums

No, does Not Void warranty from EVGA --->  as long as you do not damage the Card & place thermal pads where they need to be

Are you seeing Dust -or- the oily residue that can come from the thermal pads - [which is normal] ?

    Welcome to the EVGA Forums

    Thank you.

Yeah the oily residue. Didn't know it was normal.

Just want to see the back as well because my fans aren't reporting RPMs but they are spinning up.
One more than the other, it's more about inspecting the card than anything else.

Do you knew if the Card saves fan profiles to itself?

    Your card has Asynchronous Fans

--> Fan closest to the Video out ports = GPU temp controlled

--> the other Fan is controlled by RAM & Power section temps

What software are you using to look at fan speeds ?

Try GPU-Z  it can tell you many things about the state of your GPU

What OS are you using ?

My 1080 Ti FTW3 - I use EVGA XOC ver 6.1.14 software to set custom fan curves - (software Must be running for custom fan curve & shows iCX Temp sensors)

I have Not tested setting a fixed fan speed with XOC on my card.

X1 is the New EVGA software, I'm using that on my 2080 TI - I have not seen a need to switch my 1080Ti over to it --> You may want to try X1 (may Not show iCX sensors)

Test, set fan to 70%, save, close.  If fans continue to run --- then reboot the PC & confirm fans are still running -- watch your temps when running fixed fan speed

So are you saying that custom fan curves and specific fan speeds set in XOC or X1 only work when the software is running?
And if you close the software the fan should default back to stock?

Fixed fan speeds can be saved - then close software

Custom fan curve = Needs software running

Thanks I'll play with it when I get home.
But I think the card might be broken, because the Fan ramps up really hard and becomes very loud under load.

    Happy to Help

You just got this card ?

Could just need the TIM redone ?

Look @ your Room Temps & then your GPU temps

Then open your case side panel, point a fan at it ---> do the GPU temps come down ?

Yeah I think the temperatures are fine, they don't go over 70 Celsius when I stress test the card.
I applied new TIM last night and it dropped the temperatures, a couple degrees, but the fans seem to ramp up to 100% when they are spinning still.
Looks like the temp has no bearing on the fan speed, they are either not spinning at idle or go extremely loud.  It is very audible.
That is why I thought maybe a custom fan curve, but if what you're saying is that the XOC and X1 software needs to be running for that to happen then that is not it.
And a custom fan speed would mean the fan is spinning all the time, but it isn't, at idle it sits still.
Also last night I did notice after one test the fan speed did not ramp down at all, just kept going really fast and loud.

Room temp is about 22 Celsius, and I have a side fan that takes air in and pushes it right under the GPU fans.
I made this mod to my case about 5 years ago and haven't had issues with my other cards and temperatures.
So ambient temperature is a non issue.
