Hello Everyone, I noticed that my fan tachometers on fans 1 and 2 are continuously spiking in X1 while playing Apex Legends. This issue only starts when in-game and settles when in the game menu. I have attached a screenshot of X1 during gameplay as well as a video of my fans behavior. Fan 2 will just stop and start over and over while this is occurring. I don't think fan 2 is reaching 10 million RPMs. Fan 1 is similar but not as bad as fan 2. This is disappointing considering that this is one of EVGAs top-tier cards and we're a year after the release and this issue is still occurring. This is my first EVGA GPU in a long time and if this issue does not get resolved soon, it may be my last. You can see in the video that fan 2 is constantly slowing down and speeding up. To clarify, this is not the case in all titles, only in some. ![](https://i.imgur.com/9xFGgM6.png)

I’m shocked no one has replied. Is my card defective?

Is this on auto settings, or have you customized your fan curves? Have you updated the card's BIOS?

I just have the "Stealth" preset in place. I've been prompted when launching X1 before that the cards Firmware needs to update, where the fans go to 100% and the power conn. LEDs glow red. Not sure about the BIOs. I'm currently on the normal vBIOS and not the OC vBIOS. When I search for a BIOS update for the 3090 FTW3 Ultra, all I find is the post about the power limit increase. I found a post from @EVGA_JacobF stating that there will be a new firmware soon that would address this fan issue when the issue with New World was ongoing. That was on August 6th of this year. Not sure if this issue has been addressed in a BIOS update or Firmware. But it's still occurring on my card.

VBIOS is firmware. You get the updates through Precision X1. If Precision X1 doesn't say an update is available, either you have the latest VBIOS, or you are using an ancient version of Precision. I would test with Precision completely uninstalled in order to determine if it is a Precision software bug. If Precision is uninstalled and you no longer hear the fan ramping up and down, at least that reduces your concerns about something being wrong with the video card.

So vBIOS and Firmware are being used interchangeably. In the screenshot above you can see that I had the latest version Precision. It actually updated to 1.2.7 this afternoon. No firmware update prompt. Going to test with new version of Precision, if issue persists, then I'll remove Precision. Would you suggest I not use any monitoring software and just observe is the fan stops as before or use a different piece of SW to monitor fan speeds?

danman1280 So vBIOS and Firmware are being used interchangeably.
Well, I don't know how EVGA uses the word, versus the way you use the word, versus the way I use the word, versus the way anyone else uses the word, but as a matter of definition, BIOS is firmware. Anything to do with language is not necessarily universal or interchangeable. See also my edit above, if you missed it.

Test 1: With Precision While in Apex Legends I first loaded up the firing range highlighted in section 1 in the graph. The moment that I joined the match, the card exhibited the same behavior even on the new version of precision highlighted in section 2. Test 2: No SW Fan 1 was consistently on while fans 2 and 3 you could see were inconsistent. Not really sure what to make of this, but I'm leaning toward that there is an issue with the software. Test 3: With MSI AB Had the same issues with fans. Fans 2 and 3 are inconsistent. Anyone feel free to shed some light on this. I'm pretty annoyed that I spent this much money and am having to troubleshoot it...

Is anyone else having this issue? I just feel majorly disappointed given that I spent the extra money on a "premium product" that has been plagued with issues.

Update to this issue: It appears that this issue is specific to the new map in Apex Legends. I'm not sure what it is about the new map, but it makes these fans go nuts. Confirmed that on the other two maps, this issue does not occur. I used precision v1.2.8.

I also play Apex and I'm not having any of your issues with a 3080Ti which is the same cooler and essentially the same card aside from the RAM and a few less CUDA cores so something is not right. I also use AB and just use a fixed fan profile for my card so that may be another reason why because I want more consistent cooling vs a fan curve reacting dynamically which I find more distracting vs a constant sound signature.
