Hey team,

so I just received my 3080TI and I noticed that it runs at 60C idle..I havent tested it fully under load yet, but with a couple of games that I've played so far, Battlefield V and NFS Payback, the max temps were around 74c.
I am not that concerned about the max temps, but is the idle temp at 60c normal for this card? My 3060TI would be way cooler at around 37-40c.

Is there something I can check to ensure everything is good?
here's my config:

12900KF
Z690 Asus Prime DDR4
32GB DDR4
3 fans at the bottom for intake
3 fans at the side for intake
360mm and 3 fans at the top for exhaust
Lian Li O11 Dynamic.

Taking off the side cover or keeping it on, didnt make much of a difference.

You didn't list your exact model number. But if your GPU has 'zero fan speed' under idle, 60C or so is normal. The 3060ti, has literally nothing to do with temps on a 3080Ti.  74C under load for a fan cooled GPU is not bad.

Personally I don't think you should be concerned and if you are then you can make a fan profile with EVGA X1 software.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Sounds like something is using your GPU or maybe some settings are making this happen. Download GPU-Z and see what your GPU Clock sensor is showing at idle. My 3080 Ti sits at 210Mhz. Sure you can get this information elsewhere but GPU-Z is really nice to have.

You can also try checking Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and sort the GPU column and that might tell you what's going on.

Check the NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > "Power management" mode. If this is set to "Prefer Maximum performance" that can cause this high idle issue.

Lastly, I've also seen Privacy Control/Desktop Capture cause this within GeForce Experience (to check/enable/disable this):
1.) Press ALT+ Z (if you see Instant Replay On turn it off quick)
2.) Click cog/gear on the right
3.) Scroll down to Privacy Control
4.) Turn off Desktop capture if it's on
5.) If you turned off Instant Replay in step 1 and want it back on you can turn it back on now.

Sure there are other things that could probably cause this but I would start with the above :D Good luck!

Sorry, its the 3080 Ti XC3 Ultra. for the CPU itself I have an AIO, but if 60c is normal for a 3080TI XC3 Ultra, then I am good.
My comment about 3060 was more in comparision. I had the 3060 TI earlier and I know its a much smaller card, but was also like half the temp (around 37c at idle)

Instant replay as well as desktop capture are both off...I checked that as one of the first things after someone else suggested it

Fans spinning?? Default should be around 30% at idle.. I set mine to 50% as I cant hear it just to keep the card cool before I kick it in for gaming or whatever.

yes the fans are spinning. I manually set it to 40% for now and they were spinning even before. Just checking to see if this is normal or if there's something else I need to check or reach out to evga support on this one

Check and see if the Card is "downclocking" when idle....sounds like it isnt....60c is quite high for idle.

If it isnt....first ensure a clean install of latest Drivers...then check nvcp and ensure "Set to Max Performance" isnt set.
Install either Precision or msi ab and ensure that the GPU is downclocking.

If you open Precision what it the clock reading. I had this happen one time and I had hit the boost lock button by mistake and it locked the card in at 1800mhz,
when the card is at idle it should be about 210mhz, loocks like RJ was thinking the same thing, just make sure it downclocks when not under a load

I just checked the clock speed in X1 and it is 210 as well. I'll try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling. im wondering if that is causing some of the issues. I did notice that when I lock my computer and walk away for about 5-10 minutes, it does not sleep but the GPU temp is way down to like 34c...but once I log back into Windows (win 11) it steadily increases back to 60c again. In nvcp, I have the option for Power Management mode set to Normal instead of "Prefer Maximum Performance"

I played with that setting last night, set it and quickly went back to normal , it was not good on my card, applications will call on the power when you need it

so I found that I had to manually set the fan speed to 60-70% and that immediately brought the temps down to 37c. its louder than I like but to keep the GPU cool, thats a trade-off that I will live with :)

Set up a custom fan curve.....either Precision or msi ab......start out with 30% at idle and slowly ramp it up to 80% or so under full load....I always did this prior to going Water Cooling....

With the stock fan curve, my 3080ti FTW3 would idle at 60c. I made a custom curve so that it idles around 35-40c now and get to about 70c under load. No issue with your card, those are just the default settings.

Yes, but they stated that they need 60% to 70% fan speed to idle at 37c. That is not normal.

I have a fan curve for my 3080Ti that starts at 30% and ramps up to 80% on load.   Idle temperature at 30% is 30 degrees.  Temps drop quickly from 60 degrees under load to 35 with no load and then slowly drop to 30 degrees for idle with fans remaining at 30%.

    Power Management set to Normal.

EVGA Precision x1 seems to have fixed my issue with idling high temp ~60C, and now it's idling at 47C (EVGA GeForce RTX Ti XC3 ULTRA). I removed another brand of fan control and installed Precision and it detected the problem (firmware) and made it better. So very happy with this! However, the GPU temp was at 59C again from just watching Youtube video on Chrome. Then idle stays at 51C afterward.
