I've been mining when I'm not gaming on my 3080. Seems to be drawing a lot more power than I would like at about 330 watts. For comparison, its almost pulling the same power as my 4 x RX 580 rig. Has anyone else been getting less power draw? I have the power pulled back to 80% and no matter what I do it stays between 300w - 330w board power draw. The power settings might not be applying under 100%, but I'm not fully sure, seems like they aren't. I am running the 450 Bios currently and when I push it to max power I have seen the card pull over 425 watts while gaming, so the over 100% power settings do seem to be applying correctly. Thoughts?

I'm running these settings when mining with my 3080 FTW3 Ultra:

Power 60%
Core - 150
Memory + 1200

That gets me right at 100 MH/s @ 227 watts.  My efficiency is typically around 445 kH/W, which blows away my 5700 XT farm (16 cards all BIOS modded to do roughly 57.5MH/s each), which get about 385 kH/W.  Still way way better than my 1080Ti farm (~40 EVGA 1080Ti SC2s) that got around 260 kH/W.  I sold those last month @ $500 a pop since prices were crazy high.  Way more than I expected to get for them after riding them hard for 3+ years.

I did load the beta BIOS into both Normal and OC and currently running with the switch on OC.  Doesn't make a difference for mining, but trying to get some decent Port Royal scores with power @ 118% when not mining or gaming.  :)

My power, core and memory are being controlled by Awesome miner, but I suspect I would see the exact same values if using AB or PX1.

Seems right.

If you want to use less power, use the frequency/voltage curve to cap the core voltage at a certain frequency.

This worked excellent. I'm getting the same results now as you using PX1, just saved a mining profile on there. These setting lowered my entire system temperatures by 10 degrees C, so thats a huge plus as well. Thanks a lot. Thanks a ton my dude!

Stop doing it.  Only stock frequencies are guaranteed by the manufacturer.  Overclocking cannot be taken for granted or assumed.

Thank you for the response. Stop, I shall. I still get ~92-93 MH/s... Does this mean I lost the silicone lotto?

You never want to just plug in someone settings just because they work for them does not mean they will work for you. I would move my power down first then the core next then start moving memory up slowly when it freezes or artifacts you know to back it down.

Just wondering what OP is using for voltage setting?

Once you get it to what looks stable you want to let if run for as long as you can to see if it resets long term. If it does back it down a bit more.

It will mine just fine. But to be honest at twice the price of a 3080 it would get ripped by 2x 3080's at the same cost.

My 3080 ftw3 has only crashed on me once over the past 2 weeks. Luckily I was able to catch it within 30 minutes so not much profit was lost. I have it set for +1100 memory, -150 core and 70% power. I'm getting about 97.8 MH/s. Note that not all cards will overclock the same. The ftw3 ultra card can overclock a bit more in the memory department than most cards. My 3080 FE can hardly be overclocked at all without losing stability.

I am also running an RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra with +1100 memory, -150 core, and 68% power. GPU running at 63-64°C with fans usually around 68%. I'm also getting between 96 and 98 MH/s while using about 257W with 374 kH/J efficiency.

I'm pretty happy with the settings and performance but now I'm wondering if it would be worth getting this hybrid cooler and seeing how much more could be squeezed out?

I also have the RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra with +1310 memory, -200 core, and 61% power. GPU running at a steady 43°C with the fans set around 80%. I'm getting between 100.50 and 100.80 MH/s while using about 231W with 434 kH/J. The trick is getting it to run cooler so I took one side off my PC case. Worked for me

Re: RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra - Mining settings, power consumption 2021/03/01 03:42:46 (permalink)
I have the RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra with +1400 memory and core locked on curve at 1095MHz/712mV. Getting steady 100.5 MH/s and 101.5 MH/s with monitor turned off. Using curve is better because that way core don't boost and stay at steady clock... but for some reason I can't lock lower value than 712mV (~239W, ~420kH/W) and have seen people going much lower than that. Is this because FTW3 is more power hungry or why?

I can't get over 80 MH/s... highest efficiency of 388kH/J. Running the 450 Bios on an FTW3 Ultra. 200W, 1080 core 10100 Mem.

You need to over lock your ram. Try +1200mhz in MSI afterburner as a starter.

I made some tweaks getting 95.5 MH/s, 220W, 430 kH/J..

What is a safe VRAM junction temp? I am able to maintain 85C with fans at 75%, which is still relatively quiet. I do have an EKWB waterblock that needs installed, will be interesting to see how that helps.

Micron is rated own GDDR6X at 95C, nVidia rated at 105C and thermal throttling starts at 110C junction temp... so not sure what is safe VRAM junction temp but if you can keep it under 95C everything should be fine... I think it will be fine even if you will keep it under 100C but this is over the Micron temp specs.

Not sure thou how fast will thermal putty/pads will degrade on continuous high temperatures?

I just noticed that Afterburner doesn't control 3rd fan!!! Also there is no 3rd fan readings in GPU-Z.

So I think I must stick to the Precision X1 and this piece of garbag...software is not precise at all especially in curve settings. Is there any easy solution to export curve/all settings from Afterburner to Precision or to move whole curve like in Afterburner by holding ALT-key and flatten it by dragging one point up? Or should I drag every point separately!?

Will last settings stay if I shut the program or reboot the system (without starting the program on start up)?

EDIT: Looks like this problem is solved after installing new Afterburner (4.6.3 Final). At least I hope so.

Core - 150
Memory + 1200

Greetings, im using lolminer and with that OC im getting only 89mh/s. What miner are you using?

How much does mining strain the gpu/pc? I've heard ppl buying these and selling after some time because they drop in quality so much - so they sell them as if they're typical gpu while they're no longer anywhere near their peak performance.

If you keep your temps at a reasonable level, you won't damage the card or burn them out. I've had my 2 3080s since November and my 2 3090s since February with no drop in performance.

I keep the temps on my 3090s around 56 - 58C with junction temps of 98 - 100C. Both have Micron memory which is safely rated up to 104C junction temps with a max of 110C. Fans will die way before the GPU will and fans are fairly easily replaced. The 3090s are one Strix and one Ventus 3x. 3080s are both EVGA.

Just got a 3080 FTW3 Ultra.  Using the Quickhash High Setting of +1300 Mem 0 Core and ??? Power Target, I'm getting around 99 MH/s, Power Draw around 200w and GPU Temp 52 and VRAM 88.  And on occasion, Fan1 and Fan2 would come to a stop.

Trying to use Precision X1, I can't match it using the same Mem and Core settings and lowering the Power Target to 55% to match the same Power Draw.  I have to raise the Power Target to 60% but I then increase the Power Draw to 230w to get 99 MH/s.

Have you tried MSI Afterburner curve editor? It took me watching a couple youtube vids for me to understand it but then it was easy and I got my 3080 to 100mh+ at 470ish eff/watt.

I tried mining today to see how the card would do, im using Unmineable, 3080 FTW3. Using Precision X1, -200 core, +1129mem, Power at 69%. Temps 65c.  Im getting 78.7.  Cant get it higher than that. I thought I would for sure hit 100mh....

Any idea why ?
