I am replacing my current card with a newly purchased RTX 3060, however my stock PSU is only rated at 460w. The requirements on-line say the 3060 requires a minimum of 550w. The main issues is I only have a 6 pin adapter and need an 8 for the new card. Obviously I need an upgraded PSU, the question is....which one?! I was looking at the EVGA 550w and 600w units, is there one that will work better than the other? This system is not used for gaming, just video editing using Davinci, a lot of 4k and some 5.4k as well. System is nothing 'incredible' but I am running RAID on it, not sure if that matters for available 'plugs' from the new PSU. Any suggestions/directions would be greatly appreciated!

have you tried before changing? I put a PC together for my brother , and he's fine. running the 3060 OC and he playing ; witcher 3, Doom ethernal, mafia 1 de , on a 49'' Samsung G9 Neo - i5 11400 (*65w) - 16 gb ram - 3060 @ 6pin - EVGA 450w if you run a Z mobo and a K cpu, yeah I would change for a long term PSU, gold and 750W. No need for platinum since the efficiency difference is marginal, and the cost difference is not. This is what I did back in 2009 on a lga 775 core quad, and still run the same PSU on my 12th gen PC +3060ti ; corsair TX 750w.

I have not tried as I do not have the card yet, still in shipment. That being said I read countless posts where people said the card would not even function running with the 6-pin, that it needed to 'sees the 8 before it would operate. I read they make 6 to 8 pin adapters but cautioned that could potentially cause damage to components should too much power be needed. I have replaced PSU's in prior computers along with processors etc so I am familiar with the working inside them. I just do not want damage the card or the rest of the system.

yes if you need to change it go. But Ive 3 pc right now with adapters, so my 12th gen PC and 3060ti, no issue, and run the 3D mark and I'm in the range . Also my 3060ti is OC. Its mining 24/24 since november too. I wouldnt do it with a higher end card, but 3060 , damn right Ill do it, and its working flawlessly since september My HTPC the same, but I run a GTX960 4gb. up to you, high TDP CPU, go for it no hesitation.

easy to use ----> EVGA - Power Meter more options than most will use ---> OuterVision Power Supply Calculator I like to use 100% of load = 80% PSU capacity as a rule of thumb ... heat can shorten the life of the PSU also Make sure the PSU you buy has all the connectors you will need. A quality PSU one of two steps above the minimum is always a good investment. 1. make sure to buy the right FORM FACTOR PSU for specific computer(e.g.P5,GT, G5 and etc) (for example, "EVGA SuperNOVA 750 GA": GA is the FORM FACTOR model) 2. might need to search on the web. or contact the rep. 3. Either 550W or 600 can be available depending on the Form Factor. (might need to choose what is available for the model size) 4. most likely, the most cable connectors are most likely included unless DIY modified type computer, (the website should have the quantity and type of cables included: just click the "SPEC" button). 5. if no problem with the startup, then other PSU works the same in the same work environment.

Thank you for the links for the power meter above! Thank you for the notes on the Form Factor, as I would have not realized that. I replaced a PSU with my last system and it fit perfectly, I guess I got lucky with that! When I get home I might post a couple more questions about the FF to make sure I get the right one.

UPDATE..... My 3060 arrived today along with my new PSU (EVGA 100-GD-0600-V1) I started to uninstall the old PSU when I realized the new PSU does not have a power supply end that I need. On the end of cable that links my SSD together is two wire cable that runs to my Raid controller. The new PSU also has 2 wire attachment at the end of the SSD cable, however that end is different and will not work with my set-up. What is the best way to handle this? For now I tossed in the 6 to 8 pin adapter and it is working well. I do not game with the system, just use it for video editing was Davinci. What an amazing difference this 3060 is vs the 1060! I can play/edit 5.4k video without a single studder. With the 1060 on 4k if I tried any kind of noise reduction with playback it was all choppy. I can apply noise reduction plus other things with 5.4k video files and it is so smooth! Now I just want to make sure I get the right PSU installed, any thoughts would be appreciated, thank you!

the model appears to have the 6SATA connectors and two MOLEX connectors, and the SSD drive is likely to use SATA connector, and you can ignore the ending cable connector of MOLEX; just extra type of connectors for other possible usage in future. (NO NEED TO CONNECT ALL the connectors, even though two types of connectors SHARE the same cable line.) the GPU connector has the special design of 8pin, but it can be split into 2pin and 6pin, so to use them accordingly depending on GPU power type of 2x6pins, 2x8pins, or (1x6pin & 1x8pin). or just 1x6pin.

Yes, when I looked I can hook everything up without an issue except for the Raid controller as it is powered by a smaller version of the SATA connector, that the PSU does not have as an option. I will snap a photo later tonight to clarify. I'm not sure if they make an adapter for my needs as well.
