I've been reading through a few posts here on the forum and some comments seem to suggest that Turing/2080 Ti runs hotter than it's predecessor. Some users claim their water cooled 2080 Ti's run 10C hotter than their water cooled 1080 Ti's. On the other hand some air cooled 2080 Ti owners (more specifically the triple fan FTW3) claim their card has temps more or less the same as the air cooled 1080 Ti FTW3.

If this is the case why are the waterblocks running hotter but the air cooled cards not? If anyone want's to share their watercooled or air cooled temps that would be cool too.

2080 ti ftw3 hydro copper block added. +160 core and +1000 mem. So 2130 and 8000 respectively. GPU never higher than 48c and vram 52-55c

That is not bad but would you say on the highish side for watercooling? Do you have previous air cooled temps to compare to?

No. This is on its own 360mm 60mm thick rad. It's warmer than last gen but still great temps. On air I was seeing 85c on the GPU and mem unless I cranked the fans to 100 but than the noise was unbearable

I see 40 C to 45 C above room temp on both of my EVGA 2080 Ti   (see RTX in signature)

They are in an open case & run 24/7 with OC

On air you need excellent airflow, though the case to remove the heat from inside of your PC

Do you mind saying what the room temperature is?

40 to 45 C Above room Temp --> is the Delta T

Insert your room temp in C & add 40 - 45 C = GPU temp you should see (or higher) with great air flow - my case is open

Current Room 7 C (yes 7 its winter & room is not heated) & with current 101% load on the GPU the current temp is 47 C in X1

My summer room temp is 23-25C. That = GPU roughly 65C. What speed are your fans running? I am interested in the triple fan FTW3 which may cool slightly better than your XC's. I would like to think I have pretty good air flow in my 450D. I usually sit at 60C or less with my 1080 Ti FTW3 with gaming. Some more demanding games will peak at 66-67C. I have my fans on a curve between 70-90%.

BTW at 7C I'm not sure if I would rather have a cold GPU or a heater to warm me up.

My PC is Folding   "For the Greater Good"

Helping researcher find solutions for fighting disease: Cancer, Alzheimer ......

70 - 80 C for the GPU is not an issue

The "trick" with any ACX type cooler is to Remove the heated air from the case - before - the GPU fans recycle that heated air causing a heat loop

As most of the heat removed from the card is dumped into the case & Not out the back of the card outside of the case

The size, number, RPM & type of fan - all play into this along with how "clean" the air flow through the case is (thoughtful wire management, remove restrictions)

It is Currently (just went & checked) GPU @ 50 C / 2070 MHz / load @ 123% / 100% fans - custom aggressive curve

I get about 42 C top full load on my 2080ti ftw 3 hc in 20C ambient room at around 2115 Mhz (+125/1000) with my custom dual water loop

Apex settings 4k, everything high/very high, TSAA

My 2080Ti ftw3 rarely ever sees 60c on air
2 hours of ac odyssey at 2100mhz max power target and voltage at 4k max and I'm usually between 55 and 59
60 for a rare second
Stock PX1 fan curve

Great clock speed and temps. I just got my 2080 Ti FTW3 today. I've run the card stock through the Heaven benchmark on the extreme preset and did not break 59-60C. I did setup a custom fan curve however bumping the fan speed up to 70% at 50C upwards. Did you have to overclock for the 2100MHz or does the card automatically shoot for it with the power target and voltage turned up?

It's an oc
My max w/ overclock currently is 2145
Sustained in game it's usually at 2100
My max with just power target was 2085, sustained 1970-1985

Also I've noticed PX1 has a lot to do with what clocks you can achieve
When I went from 0.3.11 to 0.3.12 my oc immediately became unstable, would crash seconds into heavy load; went back to .11 and it's back to stable again
So I hope once PX1 is solid I'll be able to achieve even higher clocks

Interesting notes on the PX1 software @xblackvalorx thanks. I'm yet to OC my FTW3 but I am hopeful for numbers like yourself.

Touring isn't as efficient yet and needs more power than its predecessor hence the slight above average temps but still a great card.
