I've built a Windows 10 system on my x58 SLI LE and I want to add a second drive and create a RAID 1 Mirror to the first in the event of drive failure.

Can I do that from the BIOS RAID configuration, or is that something that has to be done before I add any data or are the drives both wiped out and presented to the OS as an available blank drive?
If this is something that can be done (i.e. create RAID after the fact), what's the process to make sure data isn't lost?
Thanks,

JB

I haven't used Raid arrays in a very long time, but from what I remember it will wipe the data when the ray is built. In a Raid array the OS should only see one drive as the bios firmware will direct the read/writes, so I always built the array and then installed windows. Are you using platter drives or SSD?
I just read you can build in Win 10 using storage spaces. Buy I believe the article was referring to installing 2 news drives as Raid 1.

See X58 Raid setup and configuration in the EVGA FAQs..Search "RAID" in the FAQs for more helpful information.

To enable raid you have to set RAID in BIOS then there another utility during boot that you have to enter and set up the drives. After that, then you can install Windows to the array.

If you didn't already know, you can also boot from NVME if you grab one of these https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-950-pro-nvme-512gb-mz-v5p512bw/ and a PCI-E adapter. I purchased my 950 Pro from ebay and its soooo much faster than the RAID 0 raptors I used to use on this motherboard.
