Hi there. I have a question about how to use the self-tester that some EVGA PSU' include. If I understood right, we are supposed to switch off the Eco mode first or the fan of the PSU won't spin. But, EVGA GM series don't have the switch. Well, at least mine (550) doesn't. If I want to use the self-tester tool, how should I do it? Thank you in advance.

The self tester is only a short to turn the power supply on. It is not really a "tester" other than confirming the power supply turns on when the power pins on the PSU are shorted (this is what the "tester" does). Should not make any difference if ECO mode is on or off other that when ECO mode is on, the PSU fan will not spin up at PSU startup so you would not be able to verify the fan is working from using the "tester". In your case, your PSU does not have an ECO mode.........

Ok, but you know it turns on because the fan spins up, but it won't if the PSU has the ECO mode on. Well, at least this is what I understood reading FAQ . I know PSU with Eco mode have a switch but mine have not. jonkrmr In your case, your PSU does not have an ECO mode.........
Ok, let me redo the question in another way. What does Auto Eco mode mean? And if it does mean that I can't do either the Paperclip test or the self-tester test. Why EVGA provides these testers with PSU like mine? That said If you were to make your own set of custom cables. What other tests would you do, besides the ping by ping voltage and continuity?

Connect a case fan to the PSU, or any other fan that uses a molex connector or another device that uses a molex connector that will turn on when connected to power.

With ECO mode enabled the fan (inside of PSU) should not run until the PSU reaches ~ 55 C Like Lee stated above, if you plug a case fan into the PSU ... then you would not need to see the PSU's internal fan spin to know if the PSU starts, when the jumper is used. FAQ # 59497 ----> Which EVGA power supplies have ECO mode, and what does ECO mode do? (excerpt) When ECO mode is enabled, the power supply fan will not spin until a specific temperature is reached. To enable ECO mode, there is a switch on the back of the power supply. With ECO mode enabled the fan should not run until the power supply hits 55c. If the temperature reaches or exceeds this threshold, the fan will turn on to prevent overheating.

I know I was missing something! I haven't thought about a case fan. Thank you!

To also add a little clarity, we have a few power supplies (GM and 650GT, 750GT, 850GT) that use Auto-ECO mode, which do not have a switch (hence, the "auto"). To use the tester properly, you will need to add a fan or something else directly to the PSU that can be simply powered by turning on the PSU. Otherwise, the PSU fan will not spin.

It seems to me that the tester is EVGA's secret gift to miners.

Except that these, or the paper clip variant, have been around for a lot of decades.
