Hello I'm new to computer stuff. So excuse me for the question I currently have a cx 750w corsair power supply and it has two six pin connectors to power my evga gtx 970 oc I want to upgrade to the gtx 980ti classified and I noticed that the classified needs a six pin and an eight pin. Would it be possible to power the card if I only plug the two six pin connectors I have?

You'll need an 8pin for the 8pin connector.

the 6 pins usually have an additional two pin hanging off them that lets them change to an 8

If it does not, you will have to go molex to 8pin

Your Corsair CX750 psu should have 4x 8-pin (6+2) PCIe connectors as shown here:

Just combine the 2 pieces (6+2) that one of your PCIe cables have, to make an 8-pin connector for your GTX 980 ti.

Small note.  When you DO install the 8-pin connectors take your time.
These extra 2pin blocks don't lock into place with the other 6pin blocks so much as bind together by prayer and foul language.

If you put the +2 in first, and then put in the 6-pin connector, the 6-pin connector should lock the +2 in.

CoolGTX is correct. If the card requires an 8 & 6 pin connectors, then that's what you must use.
