I am trying to install a GTX 980 FTW into a Dell XPS 8900 Special edition. The card has (1) 6-pin and (1) 8-pin female connectors. This machine has a cable leading from a 460W power supply that splits into (2) 6-pin male connectors.  The kit includes two adapters: one that has (2) female 6-pin and one male 8-pin, and one that has (2) unidentified female connectors (old school IDE hard drive power connectors?) and a 6-pin male connector.

Any friendly advice on how to connect power to this card with this configuration and adapter options?

Welcome to the Forum mveers

You can use the two 6-Pin to the one 8-Pin but you will still need one 6-pin.
The rest of Dell XPS Owners had to buy a new PSU.

The gtx 980 calls for a 500w psu. Your 460w psu should be ok as long as you keep the card at stock clocks.

One 6-pin from psu into red. 8-pin (green) into card. Other 6-pin from psu into card. Done.

Sajin,

Much appreciated, exactly what I needed to get up and running.

I should probably upgrade this power supply. What brands do you recommend for enthusiast but not hardcore?

No problem. EVGA has some very nice power supplies. I'd recommend this one for your rig.
