That's exactly why I am not having kids! Funny thing is that those projectors and screens cost the same amount as one of those over hyped 55" 3d tvs. The bad part is the cost of the stupid bulbs.

On a side note:I did TV reviews for some time and it makes me sick how bad some people are misinformed and sold on gimmicks and size alone. I go into Walmart/Best Buy and listen to people spew out nonsense and then I politely educate anyone that is about to make a bad purchase. I can't help it.

Well, for those of us on here who might be about to make a bad purchase, what should we be looking for?

i personaly would only use SamSung, Sony, or LG.. but they are also the most expensive ones,, gess u pay for the name in some cases. But my motherinlaw has a vizio seems to work fine with no issues

Sony is overpriced for what you get. And I assume you are talking about LED televisions only?

From the reviews I have done and the tvs I have viewed, I would only go with Sony, LG and Samsung also as far as LED. Plasma I would go LG, Sammy or flagship Panny.  The vizio sets I have looked at are great for bedroom sets but I have seen dozens that have main board failures, pixel issues and other deal breakers. I am usually a little cautions of the walmart tvs because sometimes they have models that are slightly inferior.
I am waiting for mine to break and for this 3-d phase to burn out (or get better?) before I decide but for sure, I can't go smaller than 60". I got used to that size sitting where I sit and I can't go smaller and I seriously doubt moving my couch is going to happen.

My lady's father is an engineer in the TV department at Panasonic. He was telling me that while the TVs you buy (Panasonic, and I believe Sony as well) at retail stores such as Best Buy are made in Japan, the ones you get at "discount stores" such as Costco, Sams Club, and Walmart are made in Mexico and have looser QC standards. He didn't say they perform any worse, or that the physical components are different... just that the craftsmanship may not be equal (so higher chance of heaving a dead pixel, etc). I would assume the same goes for most major TV producers. I live in San Diego, and I can tell you all the major electronics companies have offices, factories and warehouses just south of us in Tijuana, Mexico.

Also, in regards to waiting on buying a new TV... he suggested that we wait because Panasonic (as well as other makers) are coming out with 2nd and 3rd generation 3D TVs that are much better than the 1st generation versions (2010 and early-mid 2011 models). He also stated something about Panasonic having a glasses-less 3DTV (e.g. Nintendo 3DS) within the next couple of generations.

Always something better "just around the corner" Yeah, I think it is going to be quite a while before we get 3d without glasses. I mean, glassless 3d that is 60" + and not restricted to having to sit at exactly one spot/angle anyways.

Right, but what he was specifically saying is that they are in the testing phases with this technology. They could produce it now, but it needs to be "consumer ready", meaning things like viewing angle and production cost needs to be addressed. he said this is about 2-3 generations of TVs away (so basically around 2014).

I bought now anyway, because I was tired of the 200lb 42" Plasma from 2006 that I had.

Hitachi 51S500 crt RPTV.  Professionally calibrated.  Blows LCD out of the water and until recently, plasma was barely able to match it.  Looking to replace it eventually with maybe one of the new 55" Panny plasmas.  Sorry for the wide angle shot, it was taken for another forum to actually show off the custom speaker stands my Dad and I built.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a pair of glasses instead of those big screens?  I know that americans do have larger screens than the average European has but how large do you want to go? I have a sony KDL-32W5500 32" screen and I must say that it is a great size.. I want the picture to as sharp as possible.. I know my screen isn't LED so I dont know how LED looks at those large screens (50"+) but my guess would be that a large non-LED screen would look awful at that size. My parents have the excact same screen as I have except their screen is the 40" model. Pic-quality is much worse than on my screen.. I think it is a matter of personal preferences..

It's about re-creating the immersive movie theater experience at home.......without the sticky floors, people on cell phones, and random comments from 5 rows behind you.  As far as picture quality, large screens are designed to play HD content.  If you're not feeding it HDTV from your cable/over the air antenna/satellite/etc. and not using blu-ray.........and instead are feeding it standard def TV, VHS tapes, non-upscaled (and even then it's not optimum) DVD's then it's a waste of $$$ to buy something that large.  You can buy the biggest, best quality TV in the world, but if you're feeding it garbage to display, that's all you're going to see.

Yea, SDTV is GARBAGE when watching it on my 58" Panasonic... hell its garbage watching it on my 42 and 26" HDTVs as well. LOL, as a matter of fact it looks WORSE ont hese TVs versus watching them on an old standard def television sicne you can now notice all the imperfections and suckiness.

Amazing how spoiled we get once a new technology becomes mainstream.

Eh, finally got around to it. Crappy pic, the room is dark, Im using a 1st gen Motorola Android (COME OUT THE WITH DAMN BIONIC ALREADY VERIZON!), and I'm too lazy to play with the lighting and/or camera settings.

Panasonic P58VT25 58" Plasma display, half of my 5.1 system, and the oldest PS3 ever... a 1st generation 20GB PS3. Got it on launch day... yes, its the one that didn't come with WiFi, and no that 6 Axis controller does not have "rumble".

My 73" Mitsubishi:

I got the sixty inch in this model, DLP I'm so glad I did too.  Right after we got him home, we decided to watch star wars, during luke and darth vaders fight my sun runs into the room with a broom, and starts yelling and wailing on the screen not a scratch.  This would of ruing any lcd, led. or plasma tv.  Plus I would never get a plasma Burn-in sucks.

Actually this has been fixed in the last couple years.  You really have to try to permanently get an image burned into them now.  It's the only reason at all I'm debating replacing my crt RPTV now.

Yeah I would imagine that but at the time I purchased it was the biggest problem with plasma screen I was looking at.

Indeed. Example, my plasma uses Panasonic's "low half-life phosphors" which basically turn on and off twice as fast. This, combined with background programs (such as pixel shift and scan bars) that eliminate the chance of "burn in". Ever.

BTW, I own 4 Panasonic Plasma displays (oldest being from 2005/2006), and I don't have this issue with any of them.
