Hit Printscreen to save a screenshot in your clipboard. Open MS Paint and hit ctrl+v to paste it then save. No need for additional software.
 
As for my desktop, I'm currently playing Prey so my wallpaper is a screenshot from the game that I did not personally take but thought looked really nice
