Should one clean or attempt to clean the inside of a power supply? If so, how?

Honestly it's pretty risky to physically open it. Plus you'd void any warranties.

Or if you have some compressed air sitting around you could always use it. I would suggest using like a toothpick or something similar to hold the fan in place though and then just blow the compressed air through the fan and out the back vent.

I am always afraid of blowing something loose though, is that a concern? I guess the fans are always blowing on it... I have an air pump for my air mattress that I use to clean my computer and it works great and looks just like the "these badboys" Elite. It is probably very similar in function.

Yep true, I'd use it man. PSU's are built pretty solid, nothing should pop off or whatever. But like esCob4r said, maybe hold the fan in place, while blowing it off. Because sometimes the fan just spins really fast, and the dust never flies off.

So just blow it in the fan hole of the PSU? I guess I could blow it through both ways, right? Maybe when I clean my computer out I will clean the PSU as well from now on.

    Right!

I would just recommend to unplug the PSU, and flip the rocker switch, to off. Of course.

If you have any questions, you can PM me, but if your air is high-pressured, it should blow it out easily. IF you really needed to, you could open the PSU, BUT I don't recommend that, unless you are VERY safe, and know what you're doing. They told tons of voltage. I once blew a screw driver in half, from arc'ing it out on the PSU.

    Yup, they're sweet.

Saved me tons, and never to run to the nearby electronic store to grab some. Even more pressure than compressed air of course.

awesome! I was looking for something stronger than canned air to clean radiators and fans of my future water loop. this thing sounds like a perfect answer to my worries as well!

Would be nice to have that actually and not have too drag up my craftsman 5 gallon compressor up the stairs and shake the entire apt complex.  But man, 120psi will take off everything

The EVGA SuperNOVA 1600W P2 PSU has a clear plastic barrier under the fan making it really hard to clean out the dust with compressed air or with long tweezers.
I can see all the dust building up on the capacitors inside yet cant clean it out at all as that clear plastic barrier is in the way!

..Fortunately the 1600W P2 does have a 10 year warranty!

This thread is 6 years old by the way. Having good filters on the PC case with air flowing into the PSU is a good practice.

Unfortunately not able to really put any filters on my open air mining rig. Anything closed is just a heat trap

I don't mind the dust as I just power down every 3 weeks and do the de-dusting, however just cant de-dust the 1600 P2 PSU's.

Having a vacuum cleaner with good suction is the only solution to get at least most of the dust. Some people take their rig outside and use compressed air but if the air pressure is too strong it can cause damage.

May be worth breaking the warranty with opening it up to clean-out while removing the clear plastic layer completely so then I can vacuum it without opening it up every time in future.

I will speak to the licensed EVGA retailer the I purchased the PSU's from and see if they can do it for me without loosing warranty. However the warranty is 'limited' so not suer if they can..

Thanks for not being abusive, you know the current love hate relationship between gamers & miners..
