Like the title says.  I would prefer not to have to run another bulky cable if its not necessary.

If I were to order 3 custom single 8 Pin from cablemod does it matter that they don't include the inline capacitors.  From everything I've read it doesn't but would like to hear from any of you guys that have experience with this.

My PSU is a Corsair RMx850

Thanks

I feel like I got lucky that my EVGA 750W Supernova came with 3X 8 pin connectors. I have my sexy black and red sleeved cables ready to go for my 3080 FTW3...when I can finally get one one day.

    Maybe?
Someone linked this on reddit in the nvidia subreddit recently for a Seasonic PSU IIRR.

Glad my Supernova T2 has at least 4 cable spots for those. Always pays to buy a good PSU.

My corsair has another PCI-E cable it came with 3.  But they are the type that has two 8 pin per cable so I end up zip tieing the unused 8 pin.  The cables are already bulky because of their sleeving and capacitors.
I just didn't want to have to run another one of these but i can if its required.

Inline caps help reduce ripple. Less ripple means your hardware will last longer. Using two pci-e cables that split into dual 6+2’s each is fine, but I wouldn’t try to push the card too hard with that setup. Using three individual cables is the safest option.

Match the cable provider to your psu manufacturer

when you can power a 250W RTX 2080ti with just a single 12V wire (one wire, not one cable "bundle" from PSU), you realize that it definitely does not matter. don't listen to the guys telling you that you MUST have separate cables, because you really don't. you're not going to burn your house down or whatever doomsday scenario people want to paint.

8-pin cable + 8+8-pin cable is totally fine if you have 3x8-pin connectors on your GPU
8+8-pin is totally fine if you have 2x8-pin connectors on your GPU

if you have custom sleeved cables, then the individual cables from the PSU will probably "look" more clean, but it wont change performance.
if you dont care about having custom cables but just want to make things easier on yourself with the cables you already have, then go for it using those pigtails.

Of course it is fine, unless your PSU manufacturer tells you specifically not to.
Also the power cap for FTW3 is 420w, that is only 115w across 3 cables and 75w across pcie express slot. Each pin is rated for 150w, and the cables that daisy chain are rated for 300w. Nowhere even close to dangerous.

I emailed Seasonic asking about the same question with my 750W Prime Ultra gold that only had 2 cables.  They said 2 cables will work but they recommend 3 if possible and gave me a link to buy a 3rd cable for only $5 which I went ahead and got.  They also mentioned a 3080 can spike up to 500W but that my 9900K plus the 3080 is OK for the power supply I have.  I respect that, they could have said "nope, 750W isn't enough, you need to buy a more expensive PSU from us", but they didn't.

i watched a youtube review of the MSI card that has 3 8 Pin.  The reviewer was clearly using two cables with a pigtail for the third connection.  I dont know what the power limits of that card are though.

Well since my 270W 1080Ti is working fine with 8 pin + 6 pin pigtail, I am hoping the the 3080 will work with 8 pin plus 8pin + 8pin pigtail, even if it's 425W max.. Well, at least since I don't plan pushing the card in OC scenarios I shouldn't even be flirting with anything near 400W.  Spread between the three, it should still be drawing less wattage per cable than the 1080Ti I'm using now.

OC-ing to to the hilt, yeah, I can definitely see wanting to have 3 separate cables.  I wish I could do that, but there is just simply nowhere in my case to route 2 more gigantically thick cables. Darn Pauli-exclusion principle!
