I should reiterate that I went from ribbons to the hb bridge :P

4K max settings, max AA, running 66fps min, and in games like grid autosport around 130-140 fps. Buttery smooth experience here. Just imagine once we get a few more driver versions in... Very Very Impressed.

If I read that benchmark right.

benchmarking a new HB bridge vs a single old ribbon bridge yielded NO improvement in the limited tests he did, even at 4k resolution. for his tests. ymmv

I know samuraijack reported improvements with the HB bridge.

there is a link in the comments of this article posted that also goes against the article itself, explaining that the HB bridge was shown to imrove on that fire strike benchmarking tool.

his results were

standard bridge 26 101
HB Bridge 27 960

so I am not alone.

HB bridge improves primarily frametimes/frame pacing (not necessarily framerate) at higher resolutions.

The EVGA HB 2 and 4 space bridges are available in the store now, with auto-notify buttons for the 0 and 1 space bridges.

Thanks for the comment on this.  I'd speculated this and read similar speculation, but hadn't seen any official word or test.

I just got my SLI HB bridge this morning for my two 1080's. I was using two ribbon cables before I got this. Ran firestrike ultra a few times and it doesn't seem to make any difference whatsoever! Looks better though :P

Called it in post #120.

So still no good metrics on any of this very troubling product release? Where are the 1 ribbon or 2 ribbon, 1 led or 2 led, vs HB complete comparisons.

the specs have been on the internet since release of the 1080. I suggest reading the Nvidia White Paper.

I've seen that paper. And it is not clear (in the beginning and at other points) when they say 'old bridge' if they are just referring to the ribbon bridge or also to the LED bridge which they admit runs at the 650mhz speed. Its also not clear if they are using 2 'old' bridges or a single bridge. The spikes make me wonder how the data rate can spike up to double the sustained rate. So I wonder what those spikes are? electrical noise or truly data rate? I would also like to see a schematic of the signal and data lines of the new bridge to compare to the old. An early presentation implied that there was more to the HB bridge than just double the data lines of a single bridge.

I don't mind being positioned for future technologies. In fact, that is good.

Jacob said HB bridge improves primarily frametimes/frame pacing (not necessarily framerate) at higher resolutions. Which I may not know enough about how SLI works to understand.... but I'm learning.

Out of curiosity, can you use the new HB bridges with older 900 series cards? Titan X, 980ti, etc?

It's been said multiple times, LED bridges can run at the higher speed. HB bridges have twice the through the of LED bridges due to connecting both SLI fingers. Anything over 2560x1440 @60hz benefits from HB bridges. Jacob from EVGA stated it comes down to frame pacing. The higher bandwidth gets frames from the second GPU faster. Less of that micro stutter people are complaining about.

Unanswered. what are they comparing in the test referenced? 1 HB bridge vs old what? a) 1 ribbon bridge b) 2 ribbon bridges c) 1 650mhz old led bridge d) 2 650mhz old led bridges.

Re: Nvidia HB SLI Bridge 2016/06/23 06:28:06 (permalink)
If you read the paper, they show a chart for "old bridge" (Ribbon or Hard) up to 25x14 30hz, "Led bridge" up to 4k, and HB for 4k and up.
Original bridge runs at 400mhz and can transfer full frames over bridge to primary card up to 25x14 at 60hz.
LED bridges connect 1 finger at 650mhz with pascal only. Can transfer the full frame up to 4k.
HB connects both fingers at 650mhz and can transfer full frames up to surround.
Spikes are caused when transfers occur over PCI-Europe instead of exclusively through bridge. PCI-E traffic has extra latency as it has to transit the memory controller in CPU. This added latency causes the micro stutter when the frame doesn't make it in time for refresh.
The interview by pcper has more details on this. The HB bridges is essentially two LED bridges connecting both fingers.
I hope this answers your questions.
