Need some help here!! I just recently started running Windows Pro 8.1 for my OS. I noticed that with the latest set of Nvidia drivers that whenever I set the desktop color settings such as brightness, contrast and gamma, that when I start the computer after complete a shutdown, the setting do not stick. They will stick on a restart, but not a complete shutdown.
I had this problem on Windows 7, but only when I ran the LCD on a HDMI cable, using a DVI cable was fine. Problem is with Windows 8 is that regardless of cable, it sees the LCD as HDMI.
I have searched for this issue but have not found anyway to correct this. As far as my LCD settings, Im limited to just 5 presets, for some reason I cant configure anything else. I have also tried Windows color management with no success. Any ideas would be great!!

Certainly sounds like a driver issue, not the Nvidia driver but the monitors.
This would make sense as your monitor does NOT have a Win 8.1 driver and will NOT load the Win7 driver at boot....
In the Nvidia control panel under "Change resolution" what -exact- text is showing under the picture of the monitor?
Please post the EXACT model/part number for your Acer G245H (as there are 3 different versions)
Also please post the -reason- you are making the adjustments you posted in the NVCP?
-->as opposed your monitors OSD where they "should" be made?

Windows 8.1 does pick up this monitor and provide a Acer driver for it dated 9-16-2009...in the Nvidia control panel, the exact text is Acer G245H. The model number is:G245H Version number: G245H BMID Part number: ET.FG5HP.001 The reason I posted is because for some reason I can not access the OSD settings such as brightness, or contrast, I only have 5 presets available which are pretty much junk.

Yep thats the only driver available... please post the -reason- you are making the adjustments you posted in the NVCP? -->as opposed your monitors OSD where they "should" be made? I suggest running a over install of your current Nvidia driver using CUSTOM Mode Uncheck ALL Nvidia component entries except for Graphics driver and PhysX *IMPORTANT You -MUST- put a check mark in the box for "perform a Clean install" to remove ALL settings and restore then to defaults. REBOOT once after the Nvidia install is complete After Rebooting, make NO CHANGES in the NVCP display settings Instead, use you monitors OSD to make the changes you desire.

Download the manual for your G245H http://www.acer.ca/ac/en/CA/content/drivers (type G245H into product model and then pick it off the list shown)  I did and "user mode" allows for complete control of all settings from the OSD (shown below)  Should fix you right up

Looks like Maniac has given you some great advice there. the only thing I would add, is to disable the HD audio controller for the video card in the Device Manager. The drivers tend to install the HD audio driver regardless of the checkbox in most cases. To disable it and avoid that problem, in the Device Manager go to System Devices, and scroll down to High Definition Audio Controller. There should be two entries. If you look at the properties for them, one should be listed with a Location as PCIe_Bus_0, and the other one as PCIe_Bus_#, with the # indicating which PCIe slot it's on. The 0 will be your onboard, don't touch that one. The other one is your video card, go ahead and right click and disable it. Now you won't even get the option for the the HD audio driver. If you ever want sound over HDMI, just go back in an re-enable it. If you have a sound card, things get a tad more complex, but I can direct you through that if necessary, or you can check our FAQ here: http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=59211 Let us know how it goes.

Thanks...I probably should of listed everything that I have done so far and a clean install of the NV drivers was one of them. It still had no effect. As far as the OSD setting of the monitor, I can only access 5 presets, nothing else. I cant access brightness, contrast or anything else for some reason,the presets are all but useless.

Ok, well I have downloaded the user manuel before, but took another look at it...and still only can access the 5 presets, nothing else. The only thing I can think of is that maybe 1 or more of the buttons is broken on the monitor itself.
As far as the device manager, I have a listing of high definition audio controller on pci bus 3 under system devices
There also a listing of a high definition audio device location 0 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) under sound
The video card is listed as PCI bus 3, device 0, function 0
So Im thinking that I should disable the listing under system devices since it is on the same pci bus??

I also just tried disabling the high definition audio controller and it had no impact. I still cant get the Nvidia desktop settings to stick. So I cant get them to work in the Nvidia control panel, and I cant access the Acer OSD...guess Im just SOL on this one.

Holy crap!!...So simple but I didn't think of it. I unplugged my monitor and plugged it back in and bingo....I can access all the Acer OSD settings.

Thanks for all the help everyone!! Now that I can access the OSD settings I can forget about why the Nvidia desktop settings do not work. After all the trouble shooting I did it all comes down to unplugging the monitor for a few seconds. Its like bringing your car to the shop because a engine light is on, only to be told that your gas cap isn't screwed on...LOL!
