Yeah, I saw that too. I'm... not happy about the partner card prices. How is it the Founders Edition card with a more complicated cooler and (frankly) better looking design is between $30 and $150 cheaper than non-watercooling partner cards. I mean, the $850 Asus Strix is downright criminal considering it's an air-cooled card. I'd expect the Hybrid cards to cost that much, but looking at this, I'd be shocked if the hybrids were under $900. At which point, you might as well start looking at a custom loop and get the 3080 TUF and the EKWB block (~$850). Binning aside, that's a better bang for your buck.

You can also just go to B&H, since they have some of the prices just listed plainly.

Or give the customer color options. Not sure how advising them pay more to modify the GPU or 'it is what it is' is good customer relations.

Does the purchase of any 3080 allow me to step up to the 3080 Hybrid?  Or does it have to be a specific cooler type/model to buy?

Is this confirmation that EKWB is supporting a card other than the TUF and Nvidia cards?

Is this also confirmation that EVGA won't void my 3-yr warranty because I removed the stock cooler and installed a water block?

I have to agree with HeavyHemi on this one. The red accent was a bad idea, especially when EVGA is known for black-out designs. All EVGA had to do was add an RGB logo on the top and call it a day, but the red accent means we'll have to either paint it (void warranty), replace the cooler (probably void warranty), or be forced into a red theme (which just sucks).

It is called greed. The saddest part is, the FE cooler (estimated $150 to produce) probably cost a lot more than these plastic coolers from these AIB partners. This is the one time that I think some of the AIB should be cheaper than the FE.

Agreed. They took full advantage last launch with the 2000 series too. If you remember at the Nvidia launch event the MSRP of the 2080Ti was revealed as $999, but the FE would cost more at $1199 due to the cooler. Unfortunately the AIB partners took the opposite route and charged the full $1199 and much much more for custom cards. A similar thing is happening this time, except Nvidia didn't announce different prices for partner cards. Just MSRP for FE cards. The whole point was that partner cards should be cheaper than FE. But of course greed wins out as always and now they are charging more than ever.

BTW I see the 30XX prices on best buy and ASUS is charging $850 for the 3080 Strix and $1799 for the 3090 Strix. It's literally the same card/cooler. It's insane that they want an extra $150 over the FE for that horrible cooler but on the 3090 it costs a full $300 over the FE. It's just nuts. I remember when cards were all MSRP and the overclocked cards cost like 20-50 more. This custom cooler stuff has gotten out of control. There is no way these AIB partner coolers cost more than Nvidia FE coolers. They are all just greedy.

Where I could see true value would be better cooling performance at lower noise (if significantly better), and a longer warranty. I don't think cooling alone would be worth more than $50 over the Founders card unless it was a hybrid cooler, though. The fact that GPUs, at least in my own personal experience, die MUCH MUCH sooner than any other component in the system makes it somewhat risky to buy hopped up cards, considering they'll be running above spec and at higher voltages. Back when EVGA offered a lifetime warranty it was a nonissue because you could trust you'd be taken care of if something went wrong.
    #bringbacklifetimewarrantiesevga

Granted, you can get 5 years for $30 and 10 years for $60 extra, and I'd argue that's a better investment overall. You may not notice 2-5 fps, but you'll definitely notice when your $700-$850 investment going pop 3.5 years after your purchase.

    I can help answer...
    • Is this confirmation that EKWB is supporting a card other than the TUF and Nvidia cards?
      • You need to ask EK this question.
    • Is this also confirmation that EVGA won't void my 3-yr warranty because I removed the stock cooler and installed a water block?
      • Correct. As long as you can re-assemble the card into it's natural form for any warranty work and the GPU never got "Wet" with no visible damage, mounting a WB does not void the EVGA warranty.  https://www.evga.com/warranty/graphics-cards/

I know, I'm just remarking on the recommendation. Others have recommended painting the cooler so it's not red, so you have to take recommendations of modifications with a grain of salt unless it's from an official source.

Though, Afterburner's reply about the warranty still applying to WB installation is good to know.
