Hello. I've just completed building a new computer with an EVGA Z370 FTW motherboard (134-KS-E377-DR). I have 2 x 8GB DDR4 RAM chips from G. Skill (F4-3600C17D-16GTZR). If I install them in slots 2 and 4 as per the manual, the red memory failure LED comes on. However, I can install either one of them in slot 2 with slot 4 empty and the computer boots and runs fine. Is it likely that Slot 4 is bad or is there something I can do in the BIOS to help this issue? I've tried the Clear CMOS button on the back panel. Thanks

This is the second or third Thread now about this Memory on the Z370 https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3600c17d-16gtzr Shows only Support for the EVGA X299 Motherboard (QVL). Also this Memory is not listed here https://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/ for this Motherboard. You can only set the Memory Manually and hope for the best. Thanks for the response. I searched but didn't find any threads with respect to this issue. The crazy lights work even when both chips are installed. I thought I had checked the evga memory list before I ordered the chips but I must have not been wearing my glasses or something. By setting the Memory Manually, do you mean to change values in the BIOS with one chip, shut down, install the second, then startup again?

In the Bios set the Memory to Auto Save and reboot and enter back in the Bios and then set the Memory in that same area of the Bios. Memory Frequency: (Start with 3000MHz) DIMM Voltage: (Start with 1.35v) Timing under Basic Timing Configuration. Start with Latency 17-18-18-38

Works just as long as I don't put in the second chip. As soon as I try to power up with the second chip, the red light comes on and no boot :( I've been building my own computers for nearly 20 years but I've NEVER messed with the BIOS other than with respect to boot order because I've never felt comfortable enough with all the parameters. Guess I'll have to see if I can find one of the listed ones for sale (and pay better attention to the entire number this time).

Both Each work alone in Slot 2? Bent CPU Socket Pins can cause issue this as well.

Yep, each one works fine by itself in Slot 2. I'll take a look at the CPU pins.

Also sometime it takes time to train the Memory so allow your Motherboard to stay on for at lest 10 minutes with Both Memory Sticks Installed into Slots 2 & 4.

I like that solution better than the others :). I'll try that. I've been trying to find some chips that were on G.Skill's list and EVGA's list...

You were absolutely correct, the problem was bent CPU pins which evga accused me of bending and refused to honor the warranty. So the motherboard ended up costing me $420 instead of $160. I'll be purchasing a different brand in the future.

I can't tell, just got the email telling me about it. The links for the pictures don't work even when I'm logged into their website. I even tried pasting the links in the browser. Guess I'll find out when it comes back. I've built my share of computers, the last few with as many evga parts as I could and I've very careful, particular when installing the CPU. In this case the CPU has a flat bottom with conductors so I'm not sure how I could have even bent them. I used to use ASUS parts but they just didn't last. Funny thing is I never had any issues or fees with their RMAs, I just got tired of having to return the motherboard every six months.

That was an excellent call :). I wish I had that much knowledge about the workings of the circuits and such. I've always contented myself with being able to build the computer with the appropriate parts. I've never taken the time to try to figure out overclocking because I've never really needed it. Thanks for your responses, I'll update when I know more.

I thought perhaps you still had the board in hand and had sent them pictures. Over in the X299 section there had been a few people that had bent socket pins. Normally on the outside edges and usually took out memory slot communication. Once you get your board back look at the edge facing the memory slot that is not working - if it is just one or two pins it might be fixable with a steady hand

I went through this on an old X79 Classified Motherboard. I killed part of the CPU that Managed Memory and I could not overclock my CPU. I did get a replacement CPU from Intel and a replacement Motherboard from EVGA. Now EVGA no longer repairs Bent CPU Socket Pins and Voids the Warranty. The Cost was just to high for them, but then a company in Broomfield Colorado will replace CPU Sockets but no guarantee it will work and a nice fee of $200. This was back in 2015 as well.

LOL. Oh well I tried. I tried to paste the picture it, it looked like it worked until I hit Submit Post then it said there was an unknown error. mmm... something just occurred to me :) Let's try this :) Well in the edit screen I can see it just fine but once I click save changes I can't view the picture, there's just a box that says uploaded images.

you can't click and drag / copy paste the picture. If you have the picture on your PC open the "Full Version" of the reply box then you will see and upload button just below the text box, use that to navigate to your picture. Once uploaded then you have the option to put it in the post or just leave it attached and peeps can open it to view if they want. Keep in mind there is a total limit of 500kb of total attachments per post

Yep, I sent them the board, I used the crossover type RMA where they sent me a new one after I put down collateral. The real irritant is that I paid $160 for the original board, their collateral was $220. They sent me the new one in an unopened box. I put the first one back in that box in the neatest fashion I could including the plastic cover for the socket. I worked at Radio Shack for ten years a while back so I'm pretty good at putting stuff back in the box.

I was going to ask if you had sent them your original board with the socket cover in place. It is probably too late but I would recommend taking a picture of the socket on the new board for future reference / protection.
With the one pin in the upper part of the picture being bent over backwards that was a substantial contact to the socket

There's no way I did anything that would do that. You are correct, I should have taken a picture of it before I sent it back. Then I would either have evidence they did it upon receiving it or I would have noticed the pins. Since they apparently rule out any possibility they could have shipped it that way, it doesn't matter either way.
