enewt We need less influencers (gag) and more foundries. That would be fab-ulous.
If only it were as easy to create a foundry as it was to be an infuencer. AMD (later, Global Foundries) couldn't keep up, Intel's foundry is dying, Samsung's is horrible. All that's left is TSMC. They cannot be the only ones to create all the chips for all high performance designs or we will all be screwed. One company cannot do it all.

With the prior Elfish wedding rings conversation, it is beginning to sound like we have the making of a LotR knock-off. TSMC's last foundry can be affectionately referred to as, Mount Doom. When there are no drops, my mind wanders to some odd places....

The nightmare scenario that I was concerned about is happening after all. I could have had an air cooled 3080 FTW Ultra in my hands by now, but I dropped my auto-notify because I don't want another air cooled card. I am sick of the fan noise. I want a 3080 HC, and apparently some folks managed to get on auto-notify for them this morning. As usual though, I didn't get the message. I never do. I'm extremely busy. I work a lot and I have two young kids. I can't sit on the computer all day hitting F5 hoping to see one of those "here one minute and gone the next" auto-notify buttons. I even got a twitter account just so I could follow Jacob and get the messages. I absolutely HATE social media, but I had to do it because time is a huge factor with getting on the list for these cards. I saw the message for the 3060 Ti's this morning and the auto-notify buttons for those are live. No 3080 hybrids though. I didn't find out that those went live until a few minutes ago. A wish EVGA would stop playing games. Put the ****ing button up and leave it up so people can get their name on the list and get on with their lives. I don't care if I have to wait until March to get a 3080 HC. Just let me put my ****ing name on the list!

Hey everyone. Sorry for this noobish question. I keep seeing so many different spreadsheets with different dates/times emails have been sent from the notify queue, I’m just not sure how accurate they are.. I joined the queue for the 3080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming on 9/22 at 11:48AM PT Does anyone know where that queue is at currently For this card.? Again, I’m sorry if this is asked a lot. I just don’t know which spreadsheet is most accurate. Hoping maybe one of you know. Thanks.

Yes. The 3080 queues are on either 9/16 or 9/17. I speculate that queue dates after September will not see a 3080. Not this year, not next year. Those 14 days of queues will take up the majority of the time during the 3080 life cycle.

spf33 I started putting together a new system last week having no idea about the stock issues. Ouch. Came across this the other day while trying to evaluate when things might start happening again: no stock before spring 2021, why? "First of all, the Taiwanese founder TSMC is totally overwhelmed by demand. The reason is simple: with the exception of the RTX 3000s, all 2020 launches (including the PS5 and Xbox) use chips engraved in 7 nm. The demand for smartphones does not help matters, with ARM SoC manufacturers like Qualcomm, very demanding in 7 nm. TSMC is alone on this technology, and its production lines are therefore totally saturated. This clear limit prevents any increase in general production immediately... Likewise, a insulating film essential for etching chips in 7 and 5 nm, called ABF substrate (Ajinomoto Build-up Film) is in increasing shortage for many months. The prices of this film would have increased by 40%, with a waiting time which goes up to 4 months. And if manufacturers explain that the shortage is likely to last a long time, it is also because the few suppliers of ABF substrate such as Unimicron, Kinsus, or Na Ya indicate that they will not be able to increase their production for three quarters." https://thetimeshub.in/no...spring-2021-why/12859/
Sorry to hear that you just found about the "fun" that is the 3000 series launch. At least you just found out and missed the stress of the last few months! LOL. But I'm not sure where you got your quote from but it's true that TSMC is overwhelmed by demand, from AMD, Apple, and Qualcomm. But Nvidia decided not to get wrapped up in the TSMC madness this time around and have used Samsung's 8nm process for 3000 series chips. While it means they don't have to deal with the shortage of fab space at TSMC, it means that they are dealing with Samsung as a fab. Samsung's 8nm is no where near as power efficient as TSMC's 7nm (different generations really) but really the big issue is Samsung's fab business is no where near as robust as TSMC's so they are having problems of their own with yields of these chips. They cannot produce working chips a the same rate (at least for now). So while Nvidia would seem to have an advantage in fab space they have a disadvantage of maturity, not only in the process (which is a gen behind), but also in yields. So here we are with the current situation. Nvidia cannot supply enough chips to satisfy demand.
I've been with Nvidia since my Diamond Viper V330 and I can't recall seeing anything quite this wacky. Thanks for the additional info. So, do you tend to agree with "not earlier than spring '21" as far as easy availability for the 3000 series, specifically EVGA?

As far as a "normalized" stock scenario I would agree that spring '21 is probably the time you will be able to just go to EVGA.com or newegg or whatever and "just grab a card". March to early April would be my guess. But that's doesn't mean you couldn't get one earlier. First of all there is the EVGA queue which has worked out for a bunch of us. But I don't think it will be that long until you could grab a card from those places with a little F5 button pressing thought the day. I mean if you are determined to get a card I would have a browser window open through the day and refresh to try to just happen upon some stock. There are also browser extensions that will alert you to changes in any web page (meaning it would notice a card in stock) and let you know. Also as the hype dies down etailers will have stock for longer periods of time and NowInStock will become a viable way to get them again. To get a card before then you would have to put forth some effort, but it can be done. Good Luck!

If you use an associate's code (click on the badge in my signature) you will get 5% off of your GPU purchase. NOT A SMALL AMOUNT. For a 3090 it's like $90 off and of course lesser for the lower cards but a good saving none the less. It helps many people to get free fast shipping at least.

That is the question. It feels like that is the decision they made with respect to the hybrids and the Kingpins.

Dryvlyne I wonder at what point does EVGA shut down allowing ppl to queue up and/or ppl start giving up altogether or find a card by other means?
They won't have to shut it down. (Believe it nor not) demand will die down, people will have cards and the queue will be gone through. At some point (like always) they will have cards they cannot sell. It's always the way. Supply will catch up. It just might be slightly longer away this time.

I agree...it will get to a point where 9 out of 10 folks in the queue will just pass when they get their "invite to purchase" emails because they have already secured a card elsewhere or succumbed to their fatal F5 finger dislocation (RIP). But that is a long way off....
