"Nice, but your r23 score seems a little off. With my 13900k at stock settings on my z690 dark board with 5600 ram I score 41000."
Sajin, you're right . There isn't a big difference between them though because they are essentially the same processor . My 14900K would probably perform better if it had a better cooler . I think it's all down to that with the way Intel Thermal Velocity Boost works when it's in BIOS auto mode . Cinebench R23 just encourages it to get too hot, it behaves better in the TS Extreme cpu test .

Here are some Time Spy Extreme results . Temperatures are much more acceptable in the CPU test section, but still high . c c Predictably I beat my old CPU score, but did not improve my graphics score . It actually went down a little bit :( c c I really like this new processor . It's a big upgrade for me, and it's different, and fun to mess with . There are many options in BIOS to play with :) I think the 14900K has real potential for high performance for somebody that has a really heavy duty CPU cooler . I just read yesterday that a guy took the crown for the fastest CPU using one . 9000 Hz on the P-cores only, but he uses liquid helium . 'bet he gets it on the Moon ... Too The Moon !

One simple thing you could try is just putting a power limit in place in the BIOS. Say, 280-315W (could try a couple). It will keep temperatures down, which may allow the clocks to stay higher for longer before throttling. You will have better luck if you can directly control the voltages, whether using an override voltage or adjusting the adaptive voltage via the V/F points. Most of the motherboards run the voltage pretty high by default. Dropping the voltage without increasing any frequencies drops the power as well, it just pulls a different lever to do that.

Thanks, BObaganoosh . Good suggestion . I used it . The Gigabyte BIOS is very complicated, and they just completely changed the lay-out with the latest update, but it does have a feature for directly limiting the turbo boost maximum wattage, so I used that ( at least until I figure out the BIOS better ) . Stepping the wattage down and down from allowing up to almost 330W in Cinebench R23, I finally settled at 256 watts BIOS power limit . I think that's just 3 watts over the Intel max. turbo boost wattage ( which it will exceed anyway for very short bursts per Intel literature I've read ) . It still hits thermal throttle in R23 a lot, but that does not bother me because that is its thing it does on purpose . The recorded temps. are very much better though thanks to your suggestion . I recommend starting with Intel power limits to anyone getting a 14900K before running Cinebench R23, or similar . If I had a CPU cooler like yours I would let it run wild Here's my better temps. below . All else set to default AUTO . c c CPU package maximum 86 - 87 C per HWiNFO64 . Score 38048 . Not fantastic, but better than the old 12900K, and still turbos' to 6 GHz in normal to moderate loads :) . Too The Moon !

Time spy extreme is better at the new 256 watt turbo power limit . My best score yet :) This run is with R Bar on . c c Next the temperatures while testing . c c The GPU is kept at 100% load during both graphics tests, I like that . Another view of the 14900K in the MB below . c c OK, bring on the PCIe generation 5 video cards ! P.S. I like the EVGA CLC 280 cooler too . Just wish there was room for a bigger one . Too The Moon !

Good news, everyone ! I have made a radiator sandwich .Three changes have made the CPU temperatures lower without hurting performance .1. I replaced the EVGA radiator fans with a pair of NOCTUA 140 mm fans .2. I flashed the latest GIGABYTE BIOS .3. I experimented with a 5600mhz mem. speed and timings provided by my board BIOSfor HYNIX ICs . I don't have HYNIX, I have Samsung, but the HYNIX timings work quite well .Thanks to Sajin for helping me remember they were there . They had worked well forme before with the 12900K .See the new fans installed on the EVGA CLC radiator below .c cWith the new NOCTUA fans it is quieter, and moves air through the radiator better .With four fans and housings the layout is more like a true heat exchanger IMHO .Below are the Cinebench R23 improved temps. at 256 Watt power limit .Before there was thermal throttling and the CPU temp. was 87-88 C .After, no thermal throttling, and CPU temp. is 78-81 C .ccI can also set Intel Turbo Boost back on BIOS AUTO Turbo mode without thermal throttling .Before my AUTO setting temps. were 100-102 C with lots of thermal throttling .After there is no thermal throttling, and temps are 91-92 C .See below with the new fans, with XMP1 ( 6000 ) profile on .c cMy favorite profile is 5600 mhz Mem with a 303 watt CPU turbo power limit in BIOS .It is stable, cool, and performs well . See below .c cNo thermal throttling, CPU max. temp. 87 C, and my best score of 40030 .I think that the new rad. fans were the biggest help, but I can't help wonderif a change in the latest BIOS ( that was not in the description ) has calmeddown Intel Thermal Boost, or disabled it by default . It appears enabled on AUTO .A mystery for now . Too The Moon ! Sajin Lookin good.
Thanks, maestro . Happy New Year, and hope that your rig, Unlimited Power, is still cranking out the record high frame rates for you ! P.S. Should I reinstall Cyberpunk 2077 after changing my CPU ? Seems to run fine as it is, so far . Too The Moon .

No, you donβt need to reinstall cyberpunk after a cpu change.

In fact you should never need to reinstall any program or game after a CPU change. This assumes the motherboard has not been changed but Microsoft Windows shouldn't need to be reinstalled if that also occurs.

Thank you, Sleinous . I used a lot of tie-wraps . Sorry for late reply . Been going to dentist, and doctor appointments . My board is just about maxed out now, unless/until somebody makes a pcie gen. 5 vid. card :) Too The Moon !

That's what I thought rjohnson11, but just to make sure I wanted to ask sajin anyways because that game is finicky about how it is installed, and sajin knows all about the game . P.S. I have installed the intel APO, DTT, and GNA drivers, and updated the BIOS again ( F25 ) . Also activated them and intel TVB in BIOS, but it made no difference in performance . At least in CB23 and TSExtreme . The biggest controlling factor seems to be wattage limit . Too The Moon !
