https://www.techpowerup.com/299819/nvidia-rtx-4090-scalped-out-of-stock-company-tests-verified-priority-access-buying-program It's barely been a day, and the $1600-2000 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 "Ada" graphics card is already out of stock in leading US retailers such as Newegg. Either the inventory was barely large enough to last a day; or the scourge of scalping is back to haunt graphics card buyers. NVIDIA is testing a new way of retail for its GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition graphics cards, which it calls "Verified Priority Access." From the looks of it, this is copied from EVGA ELITE Priority Access program; where you reserve a graphics card purchase regardless of it being in stock, and when the reseller is ready with some stock, you're given a position in a queue, with a limited time window in which to complete your purchase and place the order. NVIDIA Verified Priority Access (VPA) program is only available in a handful markets, and through participating retailers. These include Best Buy (United States), Scan (United Kingdom), NBB (Germany & Netherlands), and LDLC (France, Italy, and Spain). One big catch with VPA is that you should already be owning a GeForce GTX 10-series, GTX 16-series, RTX 20-series or RTX 30-series graphics card; and be signed in with GeForce Experience. When your position in the purchase queue advances or opens up for you to make the purchase, you will be notified through a pop-up in GeForce Experience, from where you'll be taken to a page by the participating online retailer to buy your card. I think priority access program is one way to get a hold of a NVIDIA RTX 4090 card.

Which shows that EVGA had a great program. If you can't beat them, copy them.

Seems like pretty lax requirements. What kind of a difference do they expect it to make? And do people who already have newer cards need even newer cards? Seems like pandering.

Honestly if that popped up on my GeForce Experience, I would probably cave.... I use it since I can actually get FO4 to run properly using it without me going into INI files and doing it all manually.

Total click bait article if you can even call it an "article". This generation is FAR FAR better than what we saw with RTX 30 series in terms of availability and sell through to people that actually want the card rather than to just try to flip it. Of course you have the usual trolls that want to try to resell them on eBay and other outlets that cater to ridiculous markups but by and large this is a typical product launch no different than the 20 series or the 10 series before it. They always sell out on launch day regardless. Same thing happened here and yet you have that clown btarunr over at Tech Power Up reporting it like this is world shaking news and just as bad as it was in the Pandemic. Spoiler Alert! it's not, nor is it even close. RTX 4090 series cards were available hours after launch yesterday and continued to pop up throughout the day on all the major outlets. They are still regularly coming back in stock even today every few hours. That's in stark contrast to 30 series when they went out of stock everywhere nearly instantly and pretty much remained virtually unobtainable for a year and a half in the retail market. All signs so far are pointing to this being a normal highly anticipated product launch. Of course it's gonna sell out, they always do but stock will come in over the next few weeks to a month. The Pandemc by and large has subsided, productions facilities are back up and running, not nearly as many logistical shortcomings with ships full of inventory literally being left off out of the ports offshore because there was no workforce to unload or distribute them and last but far from least, GPU mining is all but dead. Don't feed that troll anymore clicks.

Sadly this program was probably brainstormed last Summer at Nvidia and implemented now for no good reason. Nvidia is manufacturing their own scarcity crisis on 4090s. This will not last btw, as soon as RDNA3 comes out, Nvidia will be in a huge market loss position. They are further behind the 8 ball with over purchased 40 series chips, future tariffs, price increases coming from TSMC and AIBs (EVGA) on the sidelines. I would not want to be an Nvidia share holder heading in to 2023.
