So I got an email today saying I had a package, and I was wondering what it was....
IT WAS MY NEXT SET OF FITTINGS!!!
Retell I know you like these white ones, and I wish I had better lighting here in my dorm room, but unfortunately I don't so this is the best I could do right now.
I have a lot of pics, so I figured I'd just link you guys to my photoset containing all of my hardware pictures so far:
HERE

If you don't want to click that, I'll give you a sneak peek:

those are really awesome fittings. I wish I knew they existed before I bought the ones I have now. They look amazing.

What else are you waiting to finish you build?

I'm waiting on the Iy Bridge release for the CPU/MB, and a radiator.  I am getting the RX360, but I have about $94 in eBay bucks coming in april, so I will get it then when the rad. will cost me about $7 lol.
The case is coming in on friday, and the BIG thing I'm waiting for is the end of this college semester
This kinda started as a "I need help" thread and turned into a build log of sorts, even though I am not starting yet haha

Is a tube-style res "better" than a bay reservoir, like for emptying and filling and such?

Re:Brand new to Liquid Cooling, looking for some suggestions/tips 2012/02/08 09:49:37 (permalink)
Neither really.  For emptying, I recommend some variant of a T junction, then run enough tubing that you only have to pull open the side panel and hang the hose over the edge, of your desk, remove the drain plug and drain, res design usually never comes into play, as normally I recommend having the res either with the pump, or slightly above so the pump does not run dry, and the T at the lowest point in the system.
Something like these 2 parts, there are better looking T's, but this is just for a basic gist:
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_346_343&products_id=2578
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_346_393_612&products_id=24261
As for filling, I just run a tube up from whatever res you have to a high point in the case and put a fill port at the top.

What do you guys think?
Should I go for the Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z, and skip the PCI-e 3.0?, or wait to see if they come out with the next version?
I am getting an Ivy bridge CPU, but they havent announced any new boards for Asus yet.  I want the MIVE, but i was thinking of the ASRock Extreme7 Gen3 as well.  What do you guys all think?
Thanks

Just ordered myself a white/blood red double helix frozenq 160mL reservoir.  Should look good in the case.  also my rad from these forums came in, it has a few bent fins, is that alright?  can I just bend them back or if its only like 10 fins its fine?
Check it:

Yea, you can safely bend them back to place. Just don't push to hard near a tube. The worst thing that can happen is you puncture a tube. If you rip the fin off the tube, that isn't a big deal

If you are super paranoid about it you can pick up a fin comb designed for straightening out bent condenser and evaporator fins. The comb comes in many different sized and fin spacing and usually is only $10 or so. If its just a few fins try carefully bending them back using a smoot flat surface, like a butter knife or something similar and smaller. The fine are super thin and easily bendable so it won't take much to bend them back into place.

Few bent fins is alright, not a big deal. Can we get a better shot of what it looks like? From the angle I see what I think is bent fins is something I would not even bother with.

Another quick question.  Since I got myself a FrozenQ res. with a built in cathode, is there a way to make the cathodes shut off with the computer, or does this happen normally?  I have never used lighting in my cases before so forgive me for sounding dumb

As long as your Cold Cathode Converter is hooked up to the PSU then it should turn off when you shut the computer off.

You have to be careful with those style of reservoirs. I had/have one from FrozenQ and where the power cable comes out coolant was leaking and ran down the cable. I was fortunate and was able to spot it right away and I sealed it with some glue.

Glue would work, but when I had a similar issue, I used clear silicone, dont really see it unless you are looking for it, but also, it is designed to hold water and/or oil from leaking out of a sealing surface.

Yeah silicon would work best, the stuff plumbers use but all I had at the time was glue.

Hopefully yours won't leak or spring a leak later on. Try not to keep anything under the res that may get fried if it was to lead.

should I just put silicone down there from the start?  The only thing under it will be a 140mm rad

I would, mine leaked in the same area after a few months. Threw that thing in the trash. Got a BP reservoir.

hmm.  weird.  I researched for a while before getting this one and most of the people I asked about it on OCN and some other forums said it was pretty leak-proof (lates design version)...
I hope mine doesnt leak

Also, I hear you can mount it either way, so I may mount it where the cathode tube exits out the top instead, and it has one outlet on the bottom with the two holes on top.

That's what I would.
If I had the tools and resources, I could make it leak proof. Something along the lines of making the cathode come from the top. Also it wouldn't use glue or whatever he used. Would all be threaded with Rubber O-Rings.

I wouldn't recommend glue either if you have silicone available. I used an expanding glue and I had to go back 3 times to patch it up because I didn't seem to seal it the first 2 times. If you have silicone around use that. All you need is a little bit on your finger or on the end or a Q-tip and fill it in. I wish I would have used silicone.
