Any idea if those burnt cards are from a single batch and if so, when where they shipped out?

I know my dead card was one of the first available in the UK. It lasted a few months before dying.

of the billions of capacitors that are shipped, some are going to be bad. If they physically look proper, there will be no way to know which are bad. It isnt just a simple batch, it is a few out of a million type of scenario.

That didnt really answer my question if those burnt cards were manufactured inside a week or so, but thanks anyway. :)

Mine was bought pretty much around the same time that 10 series cards were announced.

Its not a thermal issue here... you just have one of the bad cards who are on the market... no luck for you, sorry to read that but others, dont believe you are fine because you put pads on your card !

Thermal issue or not we are still not yet have an agreement upon that debate. I personally believe that those burned chipsets are the problem and since issue seem to only affect the earliest buyers, I think EVGA probably got an early bad stock of chipsets because all of the cards got burned at the same location on the very same line of chips.

I got a faulty 1070 FTW, black screen & 100% fan spd (burn outs may have occurred later), it was just a bad luck of the draw. Thermals weren't a problem. There are always going to be manufacturing faults, like it or not. EVGA is honouring their warranty, and have approved my RMA. I am going to be inconvenienced for a while, but they are doing the right thing now.

My PCI-E is gone so my motherboard has to visit MSI's technicians and since this is my workstation I had to renegotiate all of my deadlines with my clients. I guess we can say I'm better off if I got a different card from a different brand from the start but I choose EVGA because of their reputation. I got RMA approved but I am expecting a new 1070 for all of this "inconvenience".

EVGA will take care of you so start the RMA process.

No problem. Good thing evga has great customer service.

Did I mention the part that I'm currently living in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam :)))
RMA is gonna be .......
And I'm a multimedia designer who can't make a living without my GPU :)))

Why didn't you get a GTX1080 or Titan XP instead?  Just curious as you did state you make a living as a multimedia designer.  One would think you would want to have the best GPU for the money to support your primary income maker.  My apologies for my original post - it was rude of me to ask as I did originally.  My bad.

I figured if my thread survived long enough on the hot board, someone impolite will come in and have a comment like this. I'm living in Vietnam making around $450 per month as a multimedia designer. The GPU is used  to boost performance in After Effects, Premiere Pro as well as Cinema 4D live view. I'm sorry I don't make enough money to purchase a top of the line GPU for my work. I'm still using a cracked version of Cinema 4D and I will make it up for them by buying their software later but a $3000 price tag is quite heavy on me. My last card was a 970 GPU because both 970 and 1070 currently stay in a very good place in price/performance chart of all GPUs. What you considered crappy is worth my 3 months saving money and I trusted EVGA with all of that.

Bottomline is: Please be polite with others.

1 million percent this! You dont know another person's story.. instead of assuming, ask.

"Why didnt you decide to get a Titan XP or a 1080?" Is a hell of a lot more respectful and a hell of a lot less judgemental.

The post was removed, as it was off topic and flat out rude. The response is left so that judgemental members can find their answer before asking.

I do hope you are as stringent on other much more rude and vulgar posts.  Mine was a tame one in comparison.  Thanks for your vigilance and I have corrected my original post and apologized accordingly.

I try to be vigilant with everyones posts, but some obviously get overlooked or missed completely due to the amount posts that appear every day.

Yours apologize is gratefully accepted. We are all here to learn from each other after all.
I started this post to warn others and also let EVGA know that the bios update alone is not that much safer and there is something wrong with the quality of the chips. I do hope that they find the true reason behind this because my card was burned during idle/low load.
