I have a PG279Q for my main PC monitor. I have been playing around with my new XB253Q GX on my second PC for days now. I haven't started my main PC, with the PG279Q, for about 8 days. When I fired it up today, there were several light pixels on the screen. One was bright enough for me to see sitting back in my chair. When I came in close to the screen I could see several much lighter pixels doing the same thing. I tried several other cables, including HDMI and the same issue was present. It they weren't stuck pixels or dead pixels, as they were just a faint (lighter) version of the color displayed on the screen. I also tried several ports on the graphics card. I turned off the 165 overclock. The issue still persisted. As I was using the screen, I noticed that the issue started to go away. I could still see the pixel issues, but I REALLY had to look for them. Now, there is no problem at all. Is this something that can happen when not using the monitor for long periods of time? Or, is this just an indication of what's to come? A malfunctioning monitor?

Not sure that it matters, but I have a 2080 Ti graphics card.

That sounds fun. Having issues with both setups now...

Wait, are you, myself and Heavy Hemi the only ones around here anymore? It sure seems like it right now. Anyway, I shut down the monitor for a few hours and just started it back up and everything is fine, no pixel issues. Kind of weird, but if I look closely there are tiny dark spots when the monitor first starts too. You have to look really close, but they are there. I noticed this in the past and never thought anything of it. After the monitor warms up, its perfectly fine. It does really concern me, because this is my favorite monitor of all time!

Anyway, I'll post back if I keep having the issues. I think I'll watch it for a while and see what happens. You've been a lot of help in both of my threads Sajin! Thanks.

Doesn't look like that to me.

Alright, I attached an image of the black spots. They ONLY appear briefly when starting the monitor. They probably appear for 3-5 minutes. They slowly fade as the monitor warms up.

Very strange. Never seen anything like that before. Have you reached out to asus to see what they have to say about it? To me it seems like the pixels aren't working to fully capacity until they get warmed up.

I agree with Sajin about the pixels aren't working to fully capacity until they get warmed up.

Over at Major Geeks you'll find some apps/tools to check for and repair dead pixels and burned areas on displays (Pixel Rea 1.3 and others)..Could try some and see how it rolls.

It appears that monitor has a 3-year warranty.

Yeah, they pretty much told me to just allow the monitor to warm up and move on. Asus has been TERRIBLE with their tech support for me lately.

Yeah, I have about 13 months left on the warranty. I was kind of hoping NOT to have to send it in though, as it is always a gamble seeing what you get back.

It could be faulty pixels it could just be they need to warm up. I'd run some color calibration programs to see if it helps.

Whenever I did notice a stray/faulty pixel was happening on one of my monitors I'd put up a pure white image on full-screen at maximum brightness for a few hours to make sure everything was calibrating correctly...

If that was your main PC and you had been used to just getting on it and using it for gaming, surfing the forums or whatever else... You probably wouldn't notice anything like that unless you knew to look for it. You generally get used to things like that over time and don't notice the change as much because it happens slowly over time. Getting away from it for over a week and using something different helps to see what you are seeing now. If the monitor was disconnected from power for a long time, it may have lost some settings... Might need to adjust some actual monitor settings. But... you do have two systems... why not try this monitor with both to rule out your video card? Unless... the other one has an RTX 2080Ti in it too.

It might be the OC setting to 165Hz. I did turn it off when the pixels were weird the first time and at that time it didn't do anything. However, last night I turned off the OC and went back to 144Hz (165Hz being the OC setting in the menu that is claimed in the marketing of the monitor) just before bed. I woke up this morning after about 11 hours of the monitor being off. I did notice what is in the picture that I posted here, but VERY slightly and it went away pretty fast. I'm guessing that the OC on the monitor was never really stable, at least not in a "cold" state. However, it also seems like 144Hz is not fully stable either in a "cold" state, because what is in the attached image does still happen. It just happens for seconds rather than minutes and it's significantly less. I'm sure that what is in the image was probably happening all along. I only noticed it because I had my nose up to the screen looking for the other issue.

Haven't had an issue after disabling the OC setting in the monitor's OSD. I even went a couple of days using my other computer and not this one and came back to no issues. I guess maybe the factory OC setting was not stable when the monitor was cold?
