This will be my new hobby. Only I have money to build only one model at the month because price. This can't hit hardware hobby on any way.
I have space 30-40 euro monthly. Enough for one 1:48 or two 1:72.
I will use 1:48 size and only NATO Military vechicles, tanks, armor carriers, submarine, planes and helicopters.

F15, F16, F18, F22, F35, F117, B2, B29, B-1B, AH-64, Black Hawk, Chinook, Abrams M1, Stryker, LAV-25A2, Paladin, Patriot, THAAD, Humvee, etc...
Project will last 5 years, 12x 5 models from US and maybe some Europe NATO Members.

Can someone help me with advice what I need from kit, who made best paint and who is best brand.
I heared no best brand, something from Revell, something else from Tamiya, Hasegawa.... not to much others and need to ask advice for every specific model.
First I will build few of them and than paint.

If someone have advice could tell me.

This is Apache Hasegawa 1:48 probably my first scale model or Tamiya F16CJ/50 kit from 2007

I research scale models and somehow 1:48 is best size.
One day I plan to gift to son of my sister when become adult for 12-13 years.

Models will be all over house only NATO USA mostly vechicles and aircrafts...
And than when invasion on Balkan start because some confict, and Marines enter I will call them to show them my collection.
And they will see who is loyal and I will be on CNN. I WILL BE FAMOUS, FAMOUS...

Modeling is maybe most often hobby in my country. 2/3 of people is interesting for that.
But they usually build civilian and sometimes military vechicles.
Very often make small places sometimes even 1m size with motor and they fly on benzin.
Huge number of people arrive to look their shows.

But there is very limited number of stores who sell that and all of good stuff is out of stock.
Only is good because most stores order for you if you ask them from Ebay and foreign stores.

Revell is the most popular for paint for models I believe. You probably need to decide between a desert camouflage color or jungle camouflage.

I'm not sure for colors, but I know that I need small compressor cheap as possible later and airbrush for painting.
But I need a lot of practice before start to paint models. I hear that even paint could be removed with fine sand papers and repaint some bigger parts again but that's tricky. Because of that I will use colors as original. Probably every vechicle and aircract have different colors depend of military branche... I will take from pictures as I like mostly. Some of them will be NATO Black, Abrams same color as from Iraq, etc...F117 will be NATO Black, B29 bomber off course Silver, same as in live. AC-130 plane will be Plane Grey with marks and Black front because it's nicer than USAF camouflage.

Look B29 in 1:48 scaling... Mmrrrrrrrrr....

But there is a interesting models not vechicles only...
This is must have... Howitzer 155mm M777A2.... 1:35 because that's to small object.
Thats my life wish, to shot from Howitzer 155mm whole day.

Re: Model Aircraft my new hobby 2018/08/26 17:25:16 (permalink)
Academy Minicraft makes the best WWII models as does Tamya & Trumpeter, Hasagawa is also an advised brand, Airfix , Revell & Italleri are cheaper B-Brands .
If you want rare models like the North American XB-70 A Valkyrie I made, ERTL/AMT is the way to go, very hard to find ut very well wroth it :)

Back then I had well over 80 models all were scale 1:72 before, jet fighters bombers reconnaissance, interceptors you name  it the entire lot:
    The Soviets:

    The Allies:

Here an overview of my Allied forces and a little dogfight going on, two Soviet Fighters a Mig-29 UB Fulcrum with a Sukhoi Su-33 Seal Flanker versus two American prottype fighters, two Northrop YF-23 Black Widow II's a Black & Gray version.
The Northrop YF-23 Black Widow II is by far my ultimate fav when it comes to ATF's or say Advanced Tactical Fighters

    The Oldies:

The room I had was a large attic that was 5.26 meters lone, 5.49 meters wide and 3.10 Meters high, lots of wooden beams to where I could hang up my models, with the use of 25 pound Australian Nylon fishing line and I used tacs or nails to put the to place.

After I got my chronic Sarcoidosis, which gives me heavy arthritis like pains per day, hands shake too much and I simply lost my patience with such things, diecast models is the way I am gonna fly for now and this is one of two models I never got to work on:

Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack Bomber aka The White Swan from Trumpeter @ scale 1:72 it's a 5 Star level model and is consisted of 621 Parts:

It is consisted of accurate lasercut parts:

And this 1987 Lockheed F-19 Stealth Fighter still factory sealed, never been opened:

This model is extremely rare these days, as you can see the stickytape was never removed, I always kept it away from direct sunlight to preserve it as best as I could..

Diecast models from JC Wings & Hobby Master beat most models these days accuracy wise, but if you are good at modeling, you can always apply weathering to them as well.
But they are not cheap, like my MiG 29's were roughly 70 to 120 euro's a piece, all varying on the rarity level and brand etc.

I found that some Iwata Japan and Badger USA are great for scale models.
Iwata made compressors from 1920 and have almost 1000$ worth airbrush... But there is a great model for 100-110$ for scale painting.
Badger as well. That mean stay away from China kits from Amazon, Alixepress, etc... They give and 5 years warranty for airbrushes...
Compressor is as well 100-200$, there is for much more but not worth for scale models.

You can find used great compressors.

I saw some manufacturers sell some papers for painting.
Probably if painter want to get some effect. That's tricky to understand how work.

How you paint these models, airbrush or small brush for scale models?

Painting is much harder than glue and build model.
Special to match color you want as original aircrafts.

Thanks, I go all out when i pick up a new hobby. It's go big or go home.

If you want a professional clean look there is no substitute other than a Air Brush. The one below that I used for both of my Hellcat models is the Iwata-Medea High Performance Plus C. I would also recommend more than one airbrush as it was kind of hard to do it all with one. Some are better for fine lines and the others are better for covering a large area.

Weathering and panel lines along with clear coat is the final touches. For paints you want to use the ones that is recommend for the kit you buy as these would be the correct colors. Model paints are small and expensive however they are worth it. Would also recommend on doing a light coat of primer and not the stuff you find at the hardware store. Its way to thick.

I would agree that Revell models re not the best, however if you have some skill, you can turn them into a gem like the one below. I prefer 1:48 as you can see more detail from this scale however it takes up more room to show off all of the builds. For this reason most people go with 1:72.

    Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat
    Revell - Nr. 04140 - 1:72
