So for the longest time my EVGA GTX 590 Classified has been causing me so many issues with games, particularly with Battlefield 3. I was getting artifacts constantly, lock ups, green screens, and the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG which locks my PC up and I have to force reboot my PC. I tried many things to correct this issue. Tried fresh install of the 285.62 drivers Tried fresh install of the 285.79 drivers Tried adjusting my system RAM voltage Tried disabling my cards on-board HD Audio (Strange course of action, disabling a feature...) Still nothing... So I began to dive deeper. Found a few other who shared my frustration and started researching. Then I noticed something with the voltage... GPU 1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 Memory size: 1536MB Memory type: GDDR5 Bios: 70.10.37.00.90 GPU temperature: 38.000°C Graphics driver: 8.17.12.8019 PState 0 - GPU clock: 630MHz - Memory clock: 1728MHz - Shader clock: 1260MHz - GPU voltage: 0.913V PState 1 - GPU clock: 553MHz - Memory clock: 1603MHz - Shader clock: 1107MHz - GPU voltage: 0.875V PState 8 - GPU clock: 405MHz - Memory clock: 324MHz - Shader clock: 810MHz - GPU voltage: 0.875V PState 12 - GPU clock: 50MHz - Memory clock: 135MHz - Shader clock: 101MHz - GPU voltage: 0.875V GPU 2: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 Memory size: 1536MB Memory type: GDDR5 Bios: 70.10.37.00.91 GPU temperature: 62.000°C Graphics driver: 8.17.12.8019 PState 0 - GPU clock: 630MHz - Memory clock: 1728MHz - Shader clock: 1260MHz - GPU voltage: 0.913V PState 1 - GPU clock: 553MHz - Memory clock: 1603MHz - Shader clock: 1107MHz - GPU voltage: 0.875V PState 8 - GPU clock: 405MHz - Memory clock: 324MHz - Shader clock: 810MHz - GPU voltage: 0.875V PState 12 - GPU clock: 50MHz - Memory clock: 135MHz - Shader clock: 101MHz - GPU voltage: 0.875V So I ran some benchmarks and sure enough my cards never peaked above 0.913V and why was this? Naturally I spent hours looking all over the web seeing other people with higher voltages on lesser model graphics card and less problems. I finally found the solution, I was able to unlock my voltage to 0.938V and not with a custom BIOS but with an NVIDIA Driver... It was that simple I just used some software to set me max voltage to 0.875V - 0.938V I did not adjust the Core, Shader, or Memory Clock because I did not need to Overclock my card. I didn't not modify the EVGA GTX 590 Classified Firmware in anyway. But I am simply using an older NVIDIA Driver. So this begs the question, how can this be corrected? Using older NVIDIA Drivers cannot be a permanent solution...

I saw, I was a bit confused. But I really don't wanna void my warranty. I want them to fix it.

Bro, i dont see how could u void your warranty with something EVGA DID, the process is very simple and similar to the EVGA Firmware udpate they have in their post, the diference is that u get a bios that u know its working, like i looked it up couple ppl had bios that works with voltages ranging from .938-.963 stock cores/shaders nd memory, and u have perfect stability, i found myself that my cards where able to perform WAY Better at voltage .963 that .938..... and of course the crazy KIDS out there that over volt their cards to1.++ to overclock this beast.....u have lifetime warranty and evga is SLIPPING big time with this card....i bet half of the RMA's about this card is voltages are off by alot and its make the card unstable.....

Using a modified BIOS can void your warranty if you're unable to flash the GPU back to a stock BIOS if you need to RMA. Personally, I don't advise anyone to use a modified BIOS unless they know how to modify their own and know how to recover from a bad flash. And last, can afford to replace the card if it all goes bad, which has happened.

I understand what you mean, I repair computers for a living so something like this is more of a challenge for me. But at the same time Id rather not have to fix something if im not getting paid lol. Additionally using the older NVIDIA drivers has prevented me from playing any new games for more then a few minutes due to the bugs caused by it, however older games work amazing lol.

As you can see i have the same issue. cheers xxrazor Yes and No. Yes there is a fix but its temporary and wont work long with newer games. Here is what I did, I Downgraded my ForceWare drives to 280.19(Beta) This allows you to adjust the voltage on your card again. I then used MSI Afterburner to adjust the voltage from 0.919V to 0.938V and poof everything works great, no BIOS hacking or anything. But the issues then becomes software instability for newer games like Skyrim and Battlefield 3 but I no longer get Artifacts, the Direct X error, or Black Screens. I called customer support and they are going to put me in touch with Product Support this week. I will let everyone know what the resolution becomes.

see idk i had one crash while i was messing with my crysis settings but that game wont run my resolution. i have to run a lower resolution to fit my screen. thats the only issue i had. one day it kicked out and went to a black screen but came right back in like 3 seconds. thats the only thing that happened. like a hic-up. if it happened all the time then id have a problem but its been a few weeks now and only 2 minor happenings. which isnt to bad.

I'm curious about your voltages and BIOS version your running on your EVGA GTX 590 Classified.

I don't get it -if you knew it was a low default gpu voltage issues with you running a 590 why did you waste so much time before bumping it up ? "I then used MSI Afterburner to adjust the voltage from 0.919V to 0.938V" - wow big increase -gpu trouble shooting 101.- increase voltage if unstable -why not set it to 1.025v in ab and call it a day. -no two gpu's will have the same voltage needs at the idle\full load\temps so add a bit more. -it's well known default voltages are a crap shoot on cards. -it not like there's a fluke III built in to the card to monitor true input voltage. you see 0.919 , could be 0.825v

Well, why doesn't EVGA just release a new driver that will unlock the voltage control but stay within a safe voltage range?. I know that the reason they locked it in the first place is because owners were overvolting to unsafe ranges and the VRM's just couldn't handle the loads and were burning up. But completely disabling voltage control is crap IMO, especially since owners are reporting stability after bumping them up.

So Ill sum it up and even use caps locks. NVIDIA DRIVERS LOCK THE VOLTAGE TO 0.919V NEWER DIRECTX 11 GAMES GIVE SYSTEM FREEZEING ERROR CAUSED BY LOW VOLTAGE COULD NOT FIX BECAUSE COULD NOT RAISE VOLTAGE DO NOT WANT TO USE CUSTOM BIOS BECAUSE IT VOIDS WARRANTY Now do I need to go into further detail??? Edited for caps lock cruise control.

THe EVGA BIOS might have some sort of identifier in it that's causeing the NVIDIA Drivers to lock the voltage (I really dont know that though) but I know some non Classified 590 owners who have no Voltage issues at all, and they can go up as high as 0.96V but they don't need to. However another user I have been working with has unlocked his Classified 590 Voltage using a custom BIOS and as soon as he puts the limit to 0.938 the issue is resolved. This is something I want to avoid, using custom BIOS's.

They have bumped this up to their next level product support.

just for the fun of it drop it down to 1680/1050 and see if anything changes ,prob. wont , but i have seen it fix this prob . before PS i did see this post from EVGA bob I tested the 590 with the latest driver. Nvidia has locked the voltage adjustment for 590 cards, so going forward it is not possible to raise the voltage with Eleet. I would not recommend flashing a custom BIOS as it would void your warranty. Ill be in contact shortly to resolve your issues.
