Hi, does anyone know about this error in COD: MW3 "Direct3DDevice9::Present failed: An undetermined error occurred". Is it drivers related or specifically directx related? I've updated to the latest directx and currently using 290.53 drivers. Thanks!

It happens after I hit Apply when I change my  Advance Video settings. The screen flashes back and my regular mouse arrow comes up. I have to hit Ctrl Alt Delete and then start Task Manager to end MW3.

Evidently your system can't handle whatever settings you're trying to apply.... Or, the newer drivers, (which are crap), aren't working right...

Heh, when it was working before I was getting 100+ fps, so it's not my system. (I hope not at least). I'll go try the other drivers, thanks.

Ha!!! Never! I equate it to: I'd rather push my Harley, than ride rice...In my case I don't have these issues, I use 267.59
But when I get any new game that requires newest drivers, I'll have to battle the issue as well...

All video cards are rice rockets though.

In the last year both NVIDIA and AMD have been pretty consistent in foobaring their beta drivers.

Reinstalling different drivers did not help. It has to be a Direct 3D or DirectX problem...

I've had the same problem forever, haven't been able to find a solution anywhere.  All the same answers: dxdiag test, rollback drivers, check overclock, reinstall game(s),etc...all to no avail

Uninstalled/Reinstalled dx.  Downloaded the latest DX enduserinstall from microsoft, installed didn't fix.  Tried installing from an older game cd CoD4(since it appears to be dx9 related)tried again with CoD World at War no joy.  Uninistalled dx and tried reinstalling from steam no joy.  The only thing that's changed in my system was moving from an Asus mobo/nvidia chipset to an MSI mobo/AMD chipset.  All my games worked fine after the swap tho. I get the error if I'm in game and change any in game settings like resolution,AA,etc... when I hit apply changes and the game tries to switch back BOOM!Error or when joining a game and downloading mods-after the d/l when the game tries to switch to the next screen the error pops up.

I know I would sometimes get that error if I didn't have a mic plugged in and or my sound was set to 24bit, 192000 hz. Try lowering your sound quality in play back devices (current device) and advanced tab.

Forgot to mention, tried the sound thing too-I remember all the issues with World at War and MS Vista no joy there either. Mine is set to the lowest 24bit 44100 mhz.  Furthermore, I also get this error message occasionally-any idea where I'd find the read me?LOL-I'm good at tweaking my settings(i.e. crash and learn)been doing it for decades but things like using the event viewer and where to find the "read me" pose a little issue
