WHYYYYYYYYY Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users: Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums. We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating. We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely. While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well. We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password. We will reopen the forums as soon as we can. I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience. Gabe.

Frankly, I don't ever recall steam being hacked for 10 years. It's not that it's unhackable, it's that nobody wanted to. I wonder if it's some Origin-o-phile, or somehow related to the very recent release of Origin? Can't be a coincidence.

genkisumo Actually, I dont think it matters because there is that secret code protection? Don't need to be concerned about the persons logging onto your account, unless your steam password is the same password you use for your email, due to the fact that they need to enter the password they send you via email. However IF credit card information was stolen, then it's obvious you need to keep an eye on your statements, as the security code doesn't cover your credit card information. It's also a good idea to call your bank and let them know about possible fraudulent charges, just to be on the safe side. Many people went through this same procedure when the Playstation Network was comprimised.

Is this a bulletin from the "Department of Homeland Security"? More problems, non-existant problems, paranoia prevails! Nothing has been hacked, well important stuff, but change everything anyhow! BEWARE! EVERYONE is out to get you! Anyone one in here ever watch the classic "1984", the original by George Orwell? If not, perhaps the remake? Seems like, cause not only is "Big Brother" watching you, he's also controlling you. “You must love Big Brother. It is not enough to obey him; you must love him.” Love the conspiracy, embrace it, make it part of your life.
Got some stuff in a plastic box that's makes my screen turn on when I push the button on the front, cool. I think it's aliens, but I'll have to confirm with voodoo do-er on that.
