So I have this sound card, and I love it. However, my computer's main theme is blue and black so I was disappointed when the card came with 2 HUGE BRIGHT red LEDs. No harm, I thought. I'll just disable them through software. HA! You can't! I found this extremely annoying on Creative's part. I did a quick Google search and was very unsurprised to find that I wasn't alone. Some people like mods like this, but others don't. For Creative to not allow even the most basic customization is incredibly annoying! And by basic I mean simply adding the ability to turn the damn things off!
 
Anyway, I kept searching to see if there was any simple ways to disable them ,and the best I could find was guides on how to cover them up with electrical tape. Someone had mentioned cutting the LED's, but that it wasn't advisable due to it POTENTIALLY affecting the card's usability. So really I had no way to verify my card would work if I took some snips and cut the LEDs off.
 
The electrical tape solution wasn't good enough for me, especially after some people reported there still being some lightbleed occurring, due to the sheer brightness of the LED. So I decided "screw it" and just cut the LED's off.
 
So I just wanted to make this thread so that people were aware, that if you wanted to remove the LEDs, the card will CONTINUE TO FUNCTION LIKE NORMAL! There is no risk to the card at all as long as you're careful with the snips to not damage some other component around the LED's. The area around one of the LED's is completely clear of any IC's, however the area around the other LED does have a tiny little resister right next to one of the connectors (labeled R78), so be very very careful when snipping that connector that you don't accidentally mess with that resistor, as that will likely negatively affect the card. Also, the LED themselves have a lot of slack, so if you want you can put them back on the card if you ever need to RMA it. You would simply need a soldering iron and to be handy with tools.
 
So I intend on saving the LEDs in case I ever need to put them back on. I feel this solution is way more elegant than electrical tape :)
