I just bought a hardcopy of Fallout 4 from Amazon (free shipping) for $30.00. I do not understand why Steam insists on charging $60.00...maybe they don't have a choice? Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning how to play this game in ultrawide at 3440 x 1440, which I understand requires some modding.

    This is something I am interested in as well when I get an ultrawide. From what I have read it does indeed require modding to run in ultrawide. This is an older video so it is probably even better supported now, but might give an idea of some things involved to get it all up and running.

    Yeah, I've seen a few videos at YouTube about this. You might want to check out some of this guy's videos at YouTube about 21:9.

    Steam knows people are lazy and they can't stand waiting 2-3days for the game to arrive in the mail.

    Get the season pass when it's on sale for 20 or so. You really do not want to play it without it. Oh and some key sites have the game for less.

    I also recommend the addon content but personally really feel it's easier to recommend if you played Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas and liked it. While Fallout 4 is a great game I personally like to put a few hours in before I commit to wanting to play more then the base game. Sometimes what is added is not worth it.

    I would have to say the op should play them all. All great games just a little hard to get into the first original three games 1/2/tactics due to age. But yeah they really should play the others first due to the stories connecting with some familiar characters.

    I probably logged in more than 150 hours playing New Vegas. I'm a big fan of old Dean Martin songs. I started and got well into Fallout 3 - Game of the year Edition, but for some reason, I can't remember why, I never finished the game.

    Alrighty Then! I received my hard copy of Fallout 4 today from Amazon and I'm now installing it. It's kind of weird how the installation process is going. When I popped the disk in to install it took me to the Steam installation manager. After starting Steam and going online the installation began using the disk to install. After 25% of the game was installed, which took about 10 minutes, the disk drive stopped and Steam took over to finish downloading the rest of the game. Steam is now downloading the game at 3.4MB/s and it's at 37% which has taken about 15 minutes since Steam started their online download. I've never seen anything like this before. Is this the new normal? I'm actually happy that this game will be attached to Steam and I can wait.

    Yes, that is the new normal procedure -- & that's "IF" you actually get a disc in the physical box anymore also.

    I have had a few physical boxes so far with only a piece of paper in it w/ the key code on them to register in STeam or Origin .

    While I'm waiting for my download to finish I took a look at the Season Pass at Steam. They want $50 for it, so your advice to pick it up for $20 when it's on sale sounds like a good plan too me. Thanks

    007vsMagua,

    You'll enjoy the game.

    While some people may disagree about buying all the DLC, I am one that bought all of it and have no regrets. I will say this (and I spoke about it in my thread) that there is a difference between just playing the initial game and later adding the DLC. I started over and that is when I noticed that difference. It seemed that it was smoother for starters. There are a few other things also but you have to play it to see it.

    There are a few glitches in this game so save often, especially if you are going into battle and not saved for a lengthy period of time.

    I didn't rate fallout 4 as highly as the other games in the fallout series. The mods are definitely a lot more sophisticated this time round though. You'll have one hell of a time =)

    Yeah, I'm going to start the game without the season pass for now. I'm going to be learning and playing around with mods getting it working with a 21:9 monitor and other things. When I pick up the season pass I'll uninstall this version and start over. I'll first install the season pass and then add the mods that work best for ultrawide.

    Did they actually ever patch it to run at 21:9 resolutions?   Bethesda doesn't seem to understand that resolutions beyond 2560x1600 exist,    I wanted to run at 7680x1440 but even with the latest updates to Flawless Widescreen it was hard to do.  Largely because while you could get the FOV and things mostly right, certain parts of the game, specifically the crafting menus wouldn't scale correctly.

    No they didn't. I ran into problems yesterday and uninstalled the game just to clean up files, etc., and reinstalled it last night from Steam. I've spent part of the day learning and coming up with a plan to get it to run at 3440x1440. I think I have a plan and will get back to you after the experiment.

    The website http://www.wsgf.org/ has guides on getting ultrawide for a lot of games. Using nexus mod manager made it pretty easy to get the right mods and whatnot, but to get it to run in 3440x1440 I think I did something similar to this video where I edited the .ini file

    Get the season pass when it's on sale for 20 or so. You really do not want to play it without it. Oh and some key sites have the game for less.

    While I'm waiting for my download to finish I took a look at the Season Pass at Steam. They want $50 for it, so your advice to pick it up for $20 when it's on sale sounds like a good plan too me. Thanks

    Thanks, I'm familiar with wsgf.org but have not dug to deep. The information in the video is pretty much what I used. I found a guide at Steam that I ended up using and will detail it below.

    Re: Just Bought A New Game 2017/05/22 11:39:56 (permalink)
    Alrighty Again  :)

    Here are the things I've worked on to get Fallout 4 to run at 21:9 with a few tweaks to get the game to run better.

    I found this Guide at Steam by Gabi to be a good source.

    Using this guide I made five changes:

    Change Game FOV              (Added below [Display] in three different .ini locations...see Guide)
        _fDefaultWorldFOV=90
        _fDefault1stPersonFOV=100

    Unlock Frame Rate              (My Games > Fallout4Pref.ini _ change the number to 0)
        _iPresentInterval=0

    Remove Mouse Smoothing   (Added below [Controls] in My Games and in the Steam files)
        _bMouseAcceleration=0

    Add 21:9 Support                (Change settings in My Games and in the Steam files __ Fullscreen Mode)
        _bTopMostWindow=0
        _bMaximizeWindow=0
        _bBorderless=0
        _bFull Screen=1
        _iSize H=1440
        _iSize W=3440

    Remove Depth of Field         (Change numbers to 0 under [Imagespace] < Fallout4Prefs.ini < My Games)
        _bDoDepthOfField=0
        _bScreenSpaceBokeh=0

    I actually went ahead and changed all of the .ini's in both My Games and in my Steam folder even if the guide didn't mention it and I've had no problems. I found changes I made to the .ini's at My Games would reset. I've since learned it's best after making changes to .ini in My Games, open Properties and select Read Only. I turn Read Only off when making further changes to the .ini and then turn it back on. I have Read Only turned off at the .ini in the Steam folder.

    I'm going to attach some screenshots below showing Precision in action. My monitor has been overclocked to 80Hz and has been running without a hitch for the last two weeks. I'm using Precision and set a Framerate Target at 83FPS for my GTX 1070 FTW2 and I also have Vertical Sync set to Fast in the Nvidia Control Panel.

    I've spent a good deal of time getting this game to load properly and another thing I've learned is that once you have the game set up to run properly don't open Settings in the launcher and start changing things, go straight to play. It's just some advice I read along the way.

    Because I've spent so much time getting the game to start right I have not progressed to far. The screenshots below are from the opening and beginning. I have to say that I was blown away by the opening black and white film...it kind of hit an emotion chord.

    GreenManGaming is good for Origin and Steam codes, they always have discounts going.
    I've had lots of fun with Fallout games but the formula hasn't changed much over the years.

    Fallout 4 is still in my growing backlog...thanks Steam sales!

    I have purchased over 50 games from them they are legit and its not a grey area.

    Also do not uncap the FPS you are going to break the game, the phsyics/mechanics and many scripts for the game are tied into the FPS.

    Well, having to wait around for some mystery phone call from cdkeys just seems a little weird to me.

    I'll keep an eye on my FPS and performance. I believe the problem you are referring too existed in Skyrim and has been fixed. Because I'm running a 80Hz monitor and have my fps capped at 83fps in Presicion and have vSync enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel I'm just going to run with it and see what happens. Thanks

    Thanks, It's been awhile since I last looked into GreenManGaming. They currently have Fallout 4 Season Pass listed for 5 bucks less than Steam. I'm just going to wait for the Steam Sale on June 22 and see what happens.
