you all know 4/way works just as well or even better than it ever did. I use my 4 titian x  pascals in 4/way sli in every thing 24/7 . the dif is in the load you put them under. if you only do 1080p you don't even need my titian blacks lol. 2k and 3k stil no need. at 4k res you are just starting to make 4/way pascals work, in most things (games)they will run around 60% on all 4 at gsyn. but push your res to 8k surround and gsyn they jump up to the 90+ % on all 4. so having 4 in 4/way for most out here would be a waste . I just fill it should be mine to say not NVidia to tell me lol. I love my Titians that are not so post to work in 4/way ,but i'm ready to try 2/way and they be here in just a few days . will be my first time running kingpins. and my first dark bard also .

1) 3-way bridge can be used for 2-way as well.

But that isn't a HB bridge. Not a problem for me. I have tons of HB bridge. But it should have been in the box.

Yes, AVX512 is AVX3 setting. If application does not use these instruction setting offset to 3 does not affect anything.

But i do.. and others might if they are using a modern video encoder. (the new timespy does too.) 3 offset is WAY to low it would be much higher. That said, whatever magic is going on, the board can take it. AVX512 uses a ton of power and makes a done of heat. (I've delided the 7980xe and use LM and have a massive cooler that can display 2800w of heat.. so not much of an issue to me.) AVX512 also does not scale up directly with speed like other stuff does. I used to use an offset of 8 to 10 when at these speeds. (4.8ghz.) The CPU package is getting a little hot so i just have to remember to bump the pump and up the fans speeds a little if i'm using avx512 (on all cores.. for a long period of time.)

side note on AVX stuff to peeps. Yes, that is an offset. So if a program is using AVX then the CPU will lower by that offset. So if you are running 4.0 ghz and the offset is 3. Your speed will be 3.7ghz. AVX2 should only need a little offset (2-3), but AVX3 (AVX512) is a monster. If you do not have the cooling for it, offset that by a lot. Don't feel shame if you need it to be very high like 8+. AVX512 perf isn't going to impacted to much. Do keep an eye on the CPU package temp not just the CPU. (normally VMR temp would be on this list too.. but the dark cools that real well!)
Wanna test it?
intel: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24075/Intel-Extreme-Tuning-Utility-Intel-XTU-
prime95
Asus Realbench: http://dlcdnmkt.asus.com/rog/RealBench_v2.56.zip?_ga=2.124610826.146604746.1514047482-436371173.1508623151

I like realbench a lot for the stress test. Intel is OK, but doesn't stress it enough and prime95 is just a heat monster. :)

now to get this CPU stable at over 5ghz. I could do it on the apex board, but there aren't any options in the bios to play with on the Dark... which is mostly good.. and 5ghz is just a epeen, benchmark speed. Fans are to darn loud to deal with that heat.

What am i using for cooling? http://koolance.com/erm-3k3ua-liquid-cooling-system-aluminum
I only need to run the fans at 10% (for normal use and gaming.) It also fits into a AV cabinet (or mounted). I have a few of these, but one next to my HTPC near the TV. It just looks part of the other AV stuff.

*i wish speedtest kicked in when the system was idle. I have it on.. but it is always at max speed. Anyone have a work around for that? It is just wasting power that this stage.

luckily 4 way isn't needed anymore. A 2 way Xp or TI is more than enough for games at 4k these days. (the stock 1080s did kinda stuck. For my uses, i was coming from 4 way titan X (OG).)
The Titan is pretty darn close to for a single card. I'm looking forward to putting it underwater. That said, it isn't touching 2 way Xp.
but... to nvidia when i bought 9 1080s and they said they would still support 4 way.. (they changed their minds after i already got the cards!)

@sam, don't worry about this Titan X at this stage. I sold all of my a few weeks ago for $900 a pop (i don't understand why someone would want them...).
TXp or Ti sir :)

are you going to vapchill the CPU? can that even handle the heat pumping out of the CPU? I used to use vapochill cooling, but the units i had weren't powerful enough to keep the CPU in sub zero temps - if you aren't subzero then what is the point? (and this was a long time ago.) You really aren't getting any better OC out of it, but with the HUGE power bill cost (and the god damn hum of the cooler :) ) That is the same reason i stopped used chillers too. Damn noise! :)

http://koolance.com/erm-3...ng-system-copper  always good to point out not to mix metals. That said, even copper and nickel will effect each other. One should still be using good coolants to help. :)
*thanks bcavnaugh for pointing that out. I'd have felt bad if someone didn't get the CU model.

That is the CPU I have planned for my build. Glad to see someone else here going to use it. I made my decision after looking at this chart -

I felt that it had the best per core performance out of the box and compared to the 16 and 18 core units will not be as power hungry and temperature management will be easier when OC'd

bcavnaugh do you have a way to delid it?

i cant buy this mobo
i think i would if i could as i really dont like the low quality of FTW-K LEDs

Overall mobo is good.
do you think i can get more of the CPU by switching mobos?

i'm running the 7980xe 24/7 @ 4.7ghz. (5.0 if i want jet engine fan noise.) I delided the CPU with LM between the cpu/ihs and ihs/waterblock.

Isn't the Samsung 960 pro much faster than that intel nvme?

Maybe but all it will have on it is the OS and nothing else, also $200+ More then the 960 Pro.
Apps and Data go on the SSD Drive and for what I use it for did not want to spend a $100 + More for a little speed.

My original plan for an X299 Dark was to use 1 of the Samsung 512GB 960 pro M.2 as the OS drive, an 800GB Intel 750 U.2 for games and an Intel 1.2TB 750 U.2 for everything else but with that the Samsung would have to be put into the 80mm M.2 slot .
Looks like the prices of the Intel drives have gone up a bit - on newegg the 1.2TB drive is actually a few pennies less the the 800GB unit -- go figure??.
I may just decide to go with a single 750 (heh 1.2TB) in the PU2 slot which frees up the primary M.2 slot and get a 2TB or bigger Samsung sata drive for the rest of my needs

Not sure if this has been asked, but I was looking for the 2nd usb 3.0 header, I thought I remember reading it would have 2 internal usb 3.0 headers. Looking closer it’s described as 2 from 1 internal header. Does that mean it mean I’m required to buy an adapter and run both usb 3.0 connection from one internal header?

My original plan for an X299 Dark was to use 1 of the Samsung 512GB 960 pro M.2 as the OS drive, an 800GB Intel 750 U.2 for games and an Intel 1.2TB 750 U.2 for everything else but with that the Samsung would have to be put into the 80mm M.2 slot .

Why not two 2 1TB 960 PRO or 1TB+2TB 960 PRO?  Multiple U.2 seems messy and similar cost.

Their is only One USB 3.0 Header, you would connect to your Computer Case's USB 3.0 Cable to that would support 2 USB 3.0 Ports.
See the Specs https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=151-SX-E299-KR It does have Two USB 2.0 Headers.
If you want Two USB 3.0 Headers then look over the EVGA Z270 and Z370 Motherboards.
If you want the Two USB 3.0 Ports on the Back of your Computer you can use the below, But you have Six USB 3.0 Ports already on the back.
Kingwin Two Port USB 3.0 Bracket Cable with Built-In 20-Pin Header (KW-PCI2USB3)

Because I could. I wanted to see how the U.2 performed and I have a nice mounting space for them in my case

The prices on the 1TB 960 Pro are not that bad at the moment - the 2TB are a bit much. Looking at the drive usage on my current 500GB SSD for game installs I am thinking the 800GB 750 would eventually be running out as well so yea perhaps the 500GB 960 for OS, 1TB 960 for games and perhaps the 1.2tb 750 for anything else. It really just matters where the prices are when I am ready to buy them. At the moment I am waiting to pounce when the Dark is once again back in stock. The Dark is #1 on my list for next piece and once I see how it fits in the case I can start making final plans on the reservoir and pump for a loop. Once that is decided then I work on getting a FTW3 HydroCopper coming then mem & drives. Heh and at some point I guess I will need to pick up the CPU as well - things would be a bit slow without that

Isn't the Samsung 960 pro much faster than that intel nvme?

get intel optane drive, its the best for OS you can get
and yes 960pro is faster in pute numbers but optane beats it in overall performance

ale about 7980xe, what v you use at 5ghz? and what temps do you have?

Maybe you can provide a link to an Intel Optane Drive PCIe M.2 a 256GB or a 512GB Drive?
I cannot find one anywhere. All I can fine are PCI Express - Plug-in Card and are 2 times the cost of a standard SSD Drive or a U2M2 Drive.

Intel Optane SSD 900P (280GB, 2.5in w/ U.2-M.2 connector PCIe 4.0, 20nm, 3D XPoint) $369.99 i'm going to get 2 off them to use in the u2 plug ins in raid 0 at 64g band with  and they only pull from pcm not from the pcie slots . so if I end up going to 4 kingpins I will have x8 8 16 8 . trun of m2 they pull from pcie slots . but for now i'm going with x16 off x16 off both u2 on for 64g band and using intels new 3d xpoint memory no transistors very fast and they realy not been able to realy test just how fast yet . but faster than 960 pro's . that was what I was going to use

Did it come with a Cable?
I think I would test out 3-Way SLI before going to 4-Way.
With or Without Intel Optane Memory Module 32 GB PCIe M.2 80mm MEMPEK1W032GAXT $76.99?
Down side is this only supports the Intel SATA Ports and I have not found yet if it also supports the U2 Plug.

my 960 pro's are m.2 nvme drives. page 6 refers to sata raid 0,1,5,10, and it also talks about m.2 expansion slots, but nothing about raid support on m.2 drives. the section about raid is mostly a explanation of different arrays how they work, and setting up sata raid arrays. i read the book it before posting this question, and once again after you posted that. i dont see a section talking about raid arrays on m.2 drives. there is a section talking about making m.2 drives bootable, which it describes going to the bios menu- advanced- onboard device configuration - m.2 socket3 "enabled". but there is no m.2 socket3 on my onboard device configuration menu, and even then, its talking about making the m.2 drives bootable, not making a raid array.
