I didn't need a key at all because it was just regular raid and I just installed Raid driver and installed the operating system. I had 2x960 Pro 512gb  that I used without a hitch. Why would you need a key for just regular M2 raid anyways? If I tried use raid in the bios on the Dark motherboard it would only see 1 of my 960Gb pro's and when I installed with raid it didn't see the other Samsung 960Gb Pro at all.

"Regular Raid" = chipset manages RAID only of drives connected to PCH.  Performance limited by DMI connection between PCH and CPU (compares to ~4 PCIe lanes).

VROC = CPU manages RAID only of drives connected to CPU by direct PCIe lanes (not through PCH).  Performance maximum at sum of PCIe lanes for all drives connected directly to CPU in RAID.

2x Samsung 960 Pro in "regular" RAID0 nonsensical because DMI connection bottlenecks performance!

See https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2745465 why neither bootable PCH RAID nor VROC makes sense with Dark.

I didn't have any performance issues as the read was spot on at 3498mb and the write went from 2000 to nearly 3200mb. Stripe set at 16k.

Maybe now is a good time to create a New Thread about Raid on the X299 Chipset Based Motherboards
We all now know that the 960 Pro M.2 SSD Drive is not supported on the X299 Dark Motherboard as well as the other Models from EVGA in Raid 0.

You did. :)  RAID0 2x Samsung 960 Pro can go higher.  DMI from PCH to CPU capping you to ~3500MB/s sequential read.  Theoretical 7000MB/s sequential raid maximum on VROC RAID or M.2 PCIe RAID carrier card with 2x Samsung 960 Pro.

Clarification:
Bootable non-RAID 960 Pro M.2 SSD on CPU PCIe (ex: PM1 M.2 slot) lanes is supported.
Bootable VROC RAID0 960 Pro M.2 SSD is not supported (says Intel).

Anyone use an ek waterblock on their x299 dark? I have an ek supremacy evo, they only have instruction for a 2011 socket, but online they say the same applies for 2066 socket. I have 4 pins, with 4 springs and hand screws. The instructions say to tighten the screws until the end of the thread, but im concerned about over tightening. I can tighten the hand screws all the way to the end of the threads tightening by hand, and I don't feel like I need to hulk it on there to reach the end of the threads. Ive read about overtightened cpu coolers actually damaging socket pin's, and since pin's are not covered by warranty, Im worried about damaging them.

Anyone else using an ek waterblock?

I believe it is compatible on 2066 socket . I'm using it on EVGA X99 Classy ( ver.  2011-v3 ) and planning to build X299 when it is back in stock, so I did search around and a few sources say it is support on 2066:(read additional information ).

Maybe I made mistake because decide to stay with X99.
But I say that because I have some very cheap options for i7-7820X and i9-7900X.
I didn't saw them before, but now is over I must wait LGA3xxx.
Never mind X99 is strong enough and upgradable, even in similar to i7-7820X and i9-7900X.
They cost 400 and 700 euro but I could get them maybe even little lower price.
Only evidence of economic situation in my country when i9-7900X is offered more than 2 weeks for such price.

what you can do from windows with 960 pros is one thing but you can't make them a bootably windows raid drive . now if you have already loaded windows and thin build a raid for storage . wow ?

The main issue from what I have been reading is their is no way to set Two 960 Pro M.2 Drives in the Bios to Raid 0 and make it Bootable to install the OS using the Two M.2 Slots/Ports on the X299 Dark Motherboard.
Users want Raid 0 using 960 Pro M.2 Drives in the Bios.

Nice Video, thanks for Posting.
I noticed also the Front Fans are set to Intake into the Case through the Radiator as how I have mine now set.
I liked the way he did the Water Block on the CPU I wish he would have shown how it did the Thermal Past on the CPU.
Rethinking my Duel Loop to a Single Duel Pump Loop now as well on my X299 Dark Motherboard.

FYI, RAID is supported on the M.2 Key-M slots, PCIe slots, and U.2 slots on the Dark.  However, PCIe RAID is subject to VROC limitations, I believe.

I'll check to see if there are any additional limitations for you guys.

Thats the same style waterblock I have. You can see the hand screws wont allow you to use tools, they are completely flat on the top. The evga manual refers you to the cpu cooler installation instructions.
https://www.ekwb.com/shop/EK-IM/EK-IM-3831109800140.pdf
on page 9:
"Then - using your fingers only - screw in all four thumb nuts until you reach the end of the thread."

So I guess its safe to assume, I can tighten the nuts all the way to the end of the threads right? I don't have to try very hard to hand tighten them all the way to the end of the thread, I'm just concerned about over-tightening.

 2x 960 pro's in raid 0 using the x299 dark board

VROC.  Page 22.

Glad you broke the news, now some of you know Why I got Intel SSD M.2 Drives.
Intel SSD Drive M.2 or Intel Optane SSD 900P (280GB, 2.5in w/ U.2-M.2) + Intel Optane Memory Module 32 GB PCIe M.2
Is the way to go, and No I do not work for Intel. Nor have I ever used their SSD Drives outside of Enterprise Drives for Servers.

24. VROC Header
VROC stands for Virtual RAID On CPU. The VROC header works in conjunction with PCIe SSDs.
The header is used to provide an Intel® hardware key that will unlock advanced RAID functions, such as RAID5.
SATA RAID does not require a VROC key.
At the time of print, VROC will work with many SSDs, but is only bootable with Intel ® SSDs.
VROC is only compatible with Core™ X-series Skylake-X CPUs.

But in general I think it is a waste to run a Raid Configuration on this type of Motherboard as it will not give higher Benchmark Scores.
Windows 10 is simple now to reinstall after hardware failure.
gobstoppable still waiting for you to post the Model Number of your g.skill Memory on your other Thread x299 dark not recognizing all 4 dimm slots
And do not Trust what cpuz is telling you, they have not updated to support the X299 Dark Motherboard.
I will work with Aida64 to add the X299 Dark Motherboard to their Database as soon as I get a working Motherboard.

Ill skip a raid set up then, not interested in switching to optane drives. Main reason i went with the m.2's is for the minimalism factor. No mounted drives, no sata or power cables, make for a much cleaner look.

The g.skill kit im using is gskill f4-3200c14q-32gtzr, im trying what the other guy suggested now. I loaded the xmp profile last night, and it changed the timing and voltage. Voltage is currently set to 1.35v, running at 1.365v

X299 does not like XMP profiles it will overclock FSB, SATA, CPU and other voltages as well. Best to set primary timings and CR leave everything else on auto to start. Once you post go onto bios check your VSA, VCCIO and VDIMM voltages. You want to keep these voltages as low as possible. I run this kit http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3600c16q-32gtzkk at 4000 MHz 16-16-16-36 1T with manual primary, secondary and third timings. This is the best way to get the most out of your memory on X299. Good memory will also effect your read/write speeds on your M.2 drives. See below this is what stable memory looks like at it's full potential. The RTL's and IOL's are on auto and line up perfectly. I would not worry to much about compatibility lists. The kit you have is being used by several people (X299) on OCN.

FYI, RAID is supported on the M.2 Key-M slots, PCIe slots, and U.2 slots on the Dark.  However, PCIe RAID is subject to VROC limitations, I believe.

I'll check to see if there are any additional limitations for you guys.

I use this Bad Boy;
$89.99 $74.95 CPU-390CI Water Block, Copper Top (Intel Processor) Part No.  CPU-390CI + MX-4

I've always like Koolance CPU blocks my 380i was great performer and solid build but one con/turn off was that they didn't have the Easy-Mount-System, did they changed that or it's still the same?

Not sure what an Easy-Mount-System is when it comes to Water Blocks, it is very simple to install.
The install is the same as the older CPU-380I Water Block.

Maybe you can explain?

CPU-390CI features a microfin nickel-plated copper cold plate, nickel-plated copper top, and thick steel mounting bracket.
Standard G 1/4 BSPP threading will accept any Koolance fitting diameter up to 19mm (3/4in) OD compression style. (does not include fittings).
The CPU-390I/CI support most boards using the following processors:
  • Intel socket LGA 2066
  • Intel socket LGA 2011 / 2011-v3 (Square ILM only)
  • Intel socket LGA 1150
  • Intel socket LGA 1151
  • Intel socket LGA 1155 / 1156
  • Intel socket LGA 1366 (may require BLT-CPASZD12 for fixed motherboard back plates)
  • Intel socket LGA 775

I also use the Koolance 390ci best cold plate I have ever used. Dropped temps 3c from the EKWB previously used.

Too bad those limitations include, only allowing intel drives to be used as bootable raid drives via pcie. I can get both of my 960 pro's, hooked up via m.2 slots, set to pcie, and they show up in my vroc controller, but they show up as "unsupported" so I cant set up a raid array.

So Intel wants only raid support on the drives. Then you have to buy a key on top of that for them to work.

Not 100% correct
You can make a non bootable raid zero with any m.2 (U.2 as well?). If you want bootable raid zero you need to use Intel drives - if you want something more in VROC then you need the key - which is made out of unobtaintium

I still have a MSI Pro Carbon x299 motherboard that could Raid-0 with my 2 Samsung M2 960 Pro's without using this VROC key as I never heard of it until I got this Evga x299 Dark. This MSI mother was released right after the i9-7900 was released. This is just using regular Raid-0 setup not the VROC Raid-0 setup. As I always did before the release of the x299 motherboards.

ok last thing I have to say about the 960's grate ssd's . I have one myself in my x99 reg . and yes they make a card that will let you plug one or 2 in too it and plug it into the correct pcie slot and setup a raid pch controller raid 0 but that's a lot of trouble..  just to set up a sata raid . and to me a waste of pcie slots and only getting 6g bandwith with each card for a total of 12 no matter how fast . 64g will beat 12 anyday and not wast pcie lanes but if it truns your crank . you still can not make them a hi band with bootable raid . you are held to 12g in sata ,mwhere one at a time in m2 slot you get 32g so the 1 woulkd be faster than the 2

I see now what badboy64 is doing on this MSI MB
Remapping to and taking away from the PCIe Lanes and reducing the overall performance of the motherboard.
"Pcie Storage Remapping" is why the MSI can do what you are saying, overall you are really reducing Performance.
Maybe running with only One Graphics Card but not with Two or more Graphics Cards.

M.2 PCIe SSD RAID
You can create a M.2 PCIe SSD RAID volume with M.2/Optane Genie or UEFI BIOS.
Important
y Please note that you must install M.2 SSDs of the same model and type in the M.2
slots to create the RAID 0 volume.
y During windows setup, the RAID driver may be required and you can find the RAID
driver in MSI Driver Disc.
y You can use MSI SMART TOOL to build the Windows® 7/ 8.1/ 10 installation drive that
includes RAID driver.
y If your system currently boots to M.2 PCIe SSD RAID and you delete the RAID volume,
your system will become unbootable.
y When you delete the M.2 PCIe SSD RAID volume, please be noted that all data on M.2
PCIe SSDs will be lost.
Creating a M.2 PCIe SSD RAID with M.2/Optane Genie
1. Access the BIOS setup.
2. Enable M.2/Optane Genie by clicking the M.2/Optane Genie item.
3. Click Ok in the dialog.
4. Press F10 to save configuration and exit.
Creating a M.2 PCIe SSD RAID with UEFI BIOS
1. Access the BIOS setup
2. Switch to Advanced Mode by pressing F7 key.
3. Go to Settings > Advanced > Windows OS Configuration.
4. Set Windows 10 WHQL Support to Enabled.
5. Go to Settings > Advanced > Integrated Peripherals.
Setting\Advanced\Integrated Peripherals
SATA Configuration
SATA Mode [RAID Mode]
M2_1 Pcie Storage Remapping [Enabled]
M2_2 Pcie Storage Remapping [Enabled]
6. Set SATA Mode to RAID Mode.
7. Set both M2_1 Pcie Storage Remapping and M2_2 Pcie Storage Remapping to
Enabled.
8. Press F10 to save and exit and then press the Enter key to select Yes.
9. Reboot the system and access the BIOS setup again.
10. Switch to Advanced Mode by pressing F7 key.
11. Go to Settings > Advanced > Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology.
128 RAID Configuration
12. Select Create RAID Volume and press Enter key.
...\Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology

Select Create RAID Volume and press Enter key.

13. Enter in a volume name.
14. Select the RAID level.
15. Use Space key to select the both PCIe SSDs.
16. If creating RAID 0, select the Strip Size; it is recommended that it be left at the
default value.
17. Go to the Create Volume field and press Enter.
