Hi all. I recently picked up another 980 Ti Hybrid and have been enjoying it for a couple days now.

I was fiddling around with it today and noticed the blower fan doesn't ever ramp up in speed. I pulled up Afterburner and tried setting it to 100% and there is only a very minor increase in sound from the fan. When I try my other 980 Ti Hybrid, it gets much, much louder. Like it's actually going at the 2700 RPM it says it is.

I'm wondering if I have a faulty fan? Thanks.

I'd make sure that the fan is securely connected to the header on the graphics card.

I'll try that right now and report back. But wouldn't the blower just not work if the connector wasn't seated properly?

The card runs like a champ. I am just worried for the VRMs over time not getting the cooling they require.

I'd check the bios for the card and see what the max fan speeds are set to at set percentages. Maxwell bios tweaker should let you read the fan settings. Just use GPU-Z to save the new cards bios and then inspect it with bios tweaker.

Awesome. Will try that right now.

I took the card apart and the fan and surrounding area is very different from my original 980 Ti Hybrid. If I recall, while it got great reviews initially, there were complaints of the card being too loud when gaming. I'm wondering if they changed the blower fan to a much slower version. GPU-Z reports the fan is running at 2700 rpm when set to 100%, though.

So.. Let me try Maxwell Tweaker and I'll get back to y'all.

Okay, I did what you said and I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to look. If I'm reading it right, it says my max fan speed for the blower should be 4800RPM and a minimum of 1050RPM.

Here's a picture of the different fan. It looks much weaker like it's not meant to move at such a high RPM. Actually, that's not really a "blower" style fan. I honestly don't care.. as the card is blasting up to 1530MHz with no issues in games like Fallout 4 and Witcher 3, but knowing if it's running to spec or faulty would be nice.

And here's my original. (Not my actual pic)

I would think the new fan doesn't need to move at such a high RPM to move as much air, and it should definitely be much quieter.

Think of a bathroom fan vs a small fan (these are kind of comparable, in my mind).

A bathroom fan is a blower and they are God awful loud, but don't move much air. The blades are just like this blower fan.

A desk fan is about the same size, but the blades are 1/3rd the noise and it moves a lot of air.

Cars don't use the blower style fan, run at much lower ram, are quiet, and are designed like your new card. Maybe evga figured out the fan from the ACX moves just as much air at half the volume and just as good at performance specs.
Install that both of them, set them at 50% fan, and see if the air coming out of the back is substantially different?

Also, the bios does look like you state, 1050 minimum and 4800 max. You can do the same thing with the original card to see if the bios are both set the same.
