Has anyone ever ran into a weird issue where your CDROM is causing problems with OS?

I had issue back in the day and ended up replacing my CDROM about 2 months ago--now the issue has come up again. I am going to try another SATA cable, however I wanted to get thoughts from community.

I looked in error log and I had a ton of error's regarding CDROM driver (tho there isn't really one, it's just the one with OS). Whenever the system has issues my computer goes crazy--doesn't reboot, won't shutdown, things won't load--soon as I pull power from the CDROM device everything goes back to normal.

I am asking because part of me wonders if I am having a problem with a specific SATA port. Not sure yet.

I run mine off of the ASMedia/Marvell ports because I needed to free up my Intel ports for my hard drive and SSDs. That's the only thing I can run on the Marvell ports without the drivers crashing on me.

Perhaps the CDROM mfg has a driver.  This might work better that the OS default driver.

Have you thought about getting a DVD Rom instead? You can use it for both.

    I have a DVD-ROM; I wasn't implying I only had a CD-ROM--LOL.

Have you got the CD/DVD as the first boot option in the BIOS?

I use a usb rom, and only install it when need it. With my older sata rom that I had installed, I never did have any issues and still use it occasionally when I misplace the usb drive.

I did have a hard lock on my system when trying to install a multi card reader, but that was it.. removed the reader and everything was fine.

    Maybe try a usb cd/dvd?
