My card is getting HOT when playing Horizon Zero Dawn. Average temp 80c with Fans at 100%. No overclock either. Have it in a Lian Li O11D XL with 10 Swiftech Iris 120 fans. I also have a 3080Ti FE and it runs 10-12 c cooler with an OC.
I also put a Noctua NF F-12 fan on top of the card and temps are the same.
Was planning to put the card under water and move it to a Meshify 2 XL but I just might put the FE under water and use it instead even though the FTW3 is a couple percent faster in every game and Benchmark I threw at them.
I just dont know if this is normal with the fans running at 100%

That is the best solution I believe. If that doesn't work use a house fan or borrow one, take the PC case side cover off and allow the house fan to blow air into the chassis. If the temps fall substantially then your internal airflow needs improvement.

Try undervolting the card. Fixed low voltage overclocking. Check google for “undervolting” and look for the simple Afterburner instructions. You will see a significant decrease in temps and power consumption.

If you have to undervolt to stay below 65 C while playing HZD on max settings, you have serious cooling issues with your case. My 3080 Ti never gets above 60 C playing same game. I use basic air cooling for case. 1x 120mm intake, 2x 120mm exhaust all at 20% fixed. Custom curve that ramps up from 50 to 70 C on the card.

This is true. Being in a climate controlled room also helps.

 Ambient temp is 21-22c. I have AC. I will contact support as the card itself might have isues. As I said I also have a 3080 Ti founders edition and it runs 10-15c cooler . Same game, same settings.

EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Review - Temperatures & Fan Noise | TechPowerUp Check this. The 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra is known to be above 75c at ultra settings while playing a game. I have a 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra and it shot up straight to 83c while playing Outriders at 1440p ultra settings. I have since moved over to the hybrid kit and do not see temps above 65c. I think the temps depends largely on what game you are playing. Maybe HZD is not that GPU hard hitting as some other titles.

FWIW, mine runs around 79-82c with fans ~70% on most games that have max gpu utilization with 400-430w average draw in a case with very good airflow (p400a) and ~18-19c ambient temps.

Well,I have already started ordering stuff to rebuild the system in a Meshify 2 XL. Already have a CE 420 in front, 360 XE in the top and a XT45 V2 coming for the bottom in a couple days. Thing is I was going to get either a EK Vector block or Optimus for the FTW3. Sort of torn between fixing it myself or doing an RMA. I do have the FE to use while its out for service, Decisions Decisions.

Mine doesn't get that hot when playing anything , including HZD . I don't even have 1/2 that amount of fans.
I guess it would depend on how you have your fan setup ... How many pulling ? -how many pushing?.. and how you have it situated for flow ?

Do you always have to have afterburner running on to keep the card undervolted or does the card remember?

The most taxing thing I do is VR with an HP Reverb. Since I'm wearing headphones, I run an agressive fan curve and my 3080 Ti runs between 65 and 70c while pulling +/- 400w. I also run an agressive fan curve on the case fans too though. (Corsair 500D full of fans) In the pic, it looks like the 3 of the fans don't have room to breath up against the wall. My old case has a bottom intake fan with similar clearance to the bottom fans in the pic and it doesn't seem to move a lot of air trying to pull from the space available under there. At the very least, I would remove the side panel long enough to see if it runs cooler. And go from there. *edit* just saw that you have an FE. If the temps are better on the FE *in that same case / layout* then the EVGA card is suspect.

That is too hot, Horizon is considered a lower powered game also. I never went above 380W on that game with full GPU usage.
If you open your case and the temperatures drop then it's an airflow issue. If it doesn't, then it's mounting pressure or paste.

Looks like it is very hot. I would install Gelid thermal pads. Did you try to change the place for your PC? It might be a warm air pocket in the corner.

With side panel removed temps remain high. Still hitting 80c.
Pretty sure once I transfer everything ti Meshify 2 and get the car under water it will be fine. I am hearing lots of comments that these temps are common on this card and game and others saying its too high. I suspect it depends on how well GPU is pasted and pressure. I must have got a bad one. My VRAM temps are great. Never seem to exceed 80c and usually run in the high 60s low 70s.

People on Reddit are morons who can't set up a PC to save their life. The card should run 70C at full power, if you cool it properly.

I also see problem with this game on my 3080ti. Regardless settings: medium, high, ultra with capped 60 fps I have 100% GPU power usage all the time. How its possible that on medium settings with capped 60 fps and ultra settings GPU power usage is the same (full)?!?

Why do you cap it at 60. I am getting 150+ fps with max settings. And if your playing at 1440p or 4k it will always have high GPU usage. Try 1080p if you want lower GPU and higher CPU usage. Not sure if that will work though. I run it without OC now so temps are hovering around 70c instead of 80+. Just waiting for optimus to ship the block I ordered. Might be a while though. Then I can get everything into the Meshify 2 XL and water cool it

I capped to 60 fps and lower the settings to check if GPU power draw will go down - and it didn't - so basically poor game code is responsible for card behavior. Only way to lower it is setting power limit in Afterburner/Precision - at least it works here as intended, not like in New World... But yeah, I will also put waterblock to it, I'm just waiting for redesigned EKWB one - will fit to rest of EKWB stuff I got in my case.

To add on this I have used 6 3080ti ftw models and every single one hits 83c at 97%+ usage when gaming. I have used 3080 and 3090 ftw3 models and they avg 67c-72c 97%+ usage. This card is ridiculous with heat. I have installed in multiple environments with different cases and fans. Lian li o11d, new o11, corsair 4000d AF, 5000d AF, nzxt h710 front removed and all hit this temp. I have tried noctua fans ,lian li sl and al fans, corsair sp fans etc all same results. Ambient temp being either 68f to 70f. The card will lower below 1760mhz to keep it from going over 83c. I have had to undervolt it heavily and can usually get it down to 77c and 1850mhz at least increasing performance. I don't get **** evga did with this card but it's absolute crap in my opinion. I personally just went with the 3090 as it keeps temps and noise down and the prices were close to the same at the time. If anything just get the 3080 10/12gb at this point and save your money since card prices are finally down.

Surprising. I'm running mine in a 780T case I modified to use two 200 MM Noctua's as intake fans. I hit about 80C on Furmark with the fans around 70% pulling a touch over 450 watts. During gaming with MSFS 2020, which is a power hog, I stay around 75C with the fans around 65%. This is with a moderate OC to 1935 @ 1.031v or a slight undervolt from the stock curve.
