I am new to building PC’s and was wondering exactly how great is it to overclock your GPU? Is the performance worth voiding the warranty? What else do you need to overclock?

Besides the GPU, you can overclock the system bus, ram and cpu(s)...its also all heat related. If you can use an aquarium chiller or phase change refrigerant (let alone nitrogen), you get massive increases. Also lapping, delidding, copper ihs, metal solder/compound all allot the chip to transfer more heat. Good overclockers have pretty machines and achieve great increases over stock above dewpoint. Great overlockers shove their cases full or sprayfoam and dry erasers running sub zero temps. It ain't pretty but it works...for a while....but the bragging rights of the thin 6ghz air is intoxicating and lives forever.

Crazy how the "same product" can have a difference in quality. Imo there should be a testing process to adjust the price depending on the quality of the material. As for the event, sounds like a fun, might even learn something about OC - always been scared of doing it.

Imo there should be a testing process to adjust the price depending on the quality of the material.
That exists. Silicon Lottery - Overclocked Intel & AMD Ryzen CPUsIntel and AMD bin the chips to some degree. That's why they have multiple SKUs at different price points. But at the scale that AMD and Intel operate at, it's just not cost-effective to go too granular. Plus, there is only so much abuse that they are willing to offer with a standard warranty. That's why third-parties like Silicon lottery exist; to make profit by serving that small market of people willing to pay extra for very granularly binned chips, with a reduced warranty.
