The 28-core Xeon W-3175X was touted by Intel to be a high-end desktop (HEDT) processor initially, before Intel decided to retain the Xeon brand and target the gray-area between HEDTs and workstations. This also means that the W-3175X will lack STIM. The primary purpose of the CPU is a workstation environment, but some gaming enthusiasts might give it a try.

Intel's (lack of?) strategy for the HEDT space and that gray area extending up into WS is baffling.

Multiple thousands, easily.
Just another sign of Intel's incompetency and hasty mistakes due to Ryzen/TR.
I wonder how they will justify the cost of this one against a 32 core TR chip that is already on the market at $1800 (ish).

Since it's an unlocked server chip, and it fits ONLY in server motherboards, it will be upwards of $6000 or more. Otherwise they will canabalize their server market and people would buy this chip instead of their expensive $10 000 chip. If this comes out at under $2000, or even competitive with Threadripper in price, I'll buy you a pizza.

Under $2,000 odds and you will only offer a pizza? With that kind of odds you could offer a Lamborghini without worries. I think my odds would be better at winning the Mega Millions jackpot then this processor being under $2,000 lol.

I think we're just trying to make the point that Intel is refusing to see AMD as a legitimate threat, and that hubris is going to hurt their bottom line. The fact remains that if you're in the market for a 28 core, you could easily buy a 32 core from AMD for $1800, which uses less power than this 28 core requires (2 8 pin on the motherboard haha) They are also including the PCH PCIE lanes in the total lanes, so they are targeting Threadripper users for this when in reality they should be targeting EPYC users, who would be buying EPYC 2, when it launches shortly, with it's rumoured 48 and 64 core chips. Again Intel is showing their desperation, and their inability to perceive what the market really is, as they've been so out of touch for so long, it's like that time when Bill Gates was on Ellen and he was asked the price of Groceries.

Intel at this point is too used to being the status quo, that they can't adapt to the market not being about them. I find this all so stupid on Intel's part. It's to the point where I think Intel doesn't know how to adapt to a circumstance where they aren't setting the price point or market standards alone.
